Display dim after sleep/hibernate

I have a HP Elitebook 840 G4 with windows 10 home upgraded to windows 10 pro. I get a very dim screen whenever I put laptop on sleep or hibernate , and the dimming did not respond to light adjustment. I have to re boot the computer for the normal lighting to be restored. I have upgraded all my drivers from HP. Tried disabling automatic display adjustment, Tried Power Management options , and so many other things from the past threads,All failed. Please advise.

Hi Avinash,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Here are few suggestions that you can try out once and see if it fix the issue.

Method 1:

  • Click on Settings > System> Display

  • Uncheck ‘Change brightness automatically when lightning changes’

  • Use the slider to manually change brightness.

Method 2:

  • Click on Settings >Update & Security>Troubleshoot Check for ‘Power’ option, and Run the troubleshooter

Method 3:

  • Press Windows Key +x

  • Click device Manager

  • Expand Display adaptors

  • Right click the current display adaptor

  • Click uninstall

  • Check the box that says, ”Delete the driver software for the device”

  • Exit from Device Manager

  • Once the process complete restart the PC.

Hope it helps,
