DISM error 267 when trying to add drivers to WinPE setup

Hello, I'm trying create a new image and I'm having issues running basic DISM commands following MS documentation. This same documentation has worked before without issue. Not sure what I'm missing or doing wrong.

Error 267 - "Unable to access the image. Make sure that the image path and the Windows directory for the image exist and you have Read permissions on the folder."

  • I've confirmed that I have full permissions to .WIM file

  • I have full admin permissions on my system.

  • I'm using the correct paths

  • I've tried many different commands, all produce this error.

I'm able to boot into the WinPE environment following this documentation but DISKPART is not detecting the laptops Hard Drive that I'm trying to create an image from.

Which leads me to believe that I need to add drivers into the WinPE setup drive but I'm getting the 267 Error

Hi jaded. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

If you're installing WIndows then you can add the SATA/AHCI drivers from the link on the installation screen "Where do you want to install Windows?" if no drives show up there. But 90% of the time that error means bad media.

If you're not trying to install then it's much much easier to slipstream drivers using Vlite for Windows 10:

I would strongly recommend the other more proven method because DISM is a can of worms and best reserved for IT Pro's who use it with scripts. You can ask them at our sister forums for IT Professionals, Q&A forums here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/answers/index.... as Community is strictly an end-consumer forum.

There are also equally good (and sometimes busier) IT Pro forums here:

I hope it helps.

Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Yes! NTLite! I knew it was something I've used before but I couldn't remember what it was. I will definitely give these instructions a try. Thanks a lot Greg!

I'm glad to help, and please do let us know how it works. It's been awhile since I used it back in Windows 7 but it was pretty easy and kinda fun.
