Diskmgmt unable to shrink partition with free space

On my main C:/ drive, there are 130 GBs of free space, which is visible in diskmgmt. However, when I try to shrink the partition, it says there are only around 8GBs of available shrink space in the new menu.

I tried using other third party programs to shrink the partition but they also didnt work.

Any ideas?

Hello ,

I’m here to help you in resolving your issue

It might be because of Windows Disk Management has limitations when shrinking partitions. Even if you have 100GB of free space, Windows can only shrink up to the last unmovable file.

Try Defragment & Optimize Drive:

1: Press Win + R > dfrgui > Enter to Open Defragment and Optimize Drives.
2: Select your drive > Click Optimize.
3: Restart your PC and try shrinking the partition again.
