DirectX 9 Wont Install on Windows 10

Title says it.

I want DX9 for older games.  When I try the install, I get a dialogue box that pops up saying, "You must be running Windows 98, Millennium Edition, Windows  Server 2003 Family ton install Directx 9.0."

I'm guessing I'm at the wrong link as not even Windows 7 is listed.

I'd appreciate pointing me in the right direction for installing Directx 9 on Windows 10 64bit.

Please and thank you!

Yep, I'm with you.

I know others that were on 7, had DX9 installed and it transitioned over to 10 just fine.

For me, I didn't have it installed.  Trying to install it now is where I am...

Need a solution please.  Surely, this is deserving of some attention.  WIN10 is pretty awesome.  Hate for this to be what pushes me back to 7.

Update

In my game folder (In this case "Tera", the online MMO) it actually shows the file extension "Mar2009_d3dx9_41_x86"  which is DX9.

Also, the game is supposed to install and use DX9 if it's not detected on the system.

However, when I run the compatibility test, it shows DX12.  The game is jerky and laggy while slow to load.

Any idea here? Doesn't look like a Microsoft problem but it can't hurt to ask.

Why is this the standard response, why would having the most up to date version of directx help you obtaining a much older version to play older games?

I've had the same problems with the bulk of my game library on steam and all I ever get told is install the latest version of directx and reinstall the game, like I wouldn't have tried that in the first place and no it doesn't work...

I know this thread is a year old but I came across it when trying to do the same thing.  In case this result is coming up for others, I had success installing the June 2010 End-user runtimes on Windows 10 (not the 9.0c end-user runtimes, which gave me the same error mentioned in the OP).

The package can be found here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

I successfully installed June 2010 End-user Runtime on Windows 10 and my DirectX 9.0c games work perfectly now.

Thanks, Kirk.
