Device not started (amdwddmg)/PnP Kernel Error 411

Since December Last year (after installing a M.2 Nvme) I have been getting this error. My games do not play the same (if they play at all).

Things I have tried to fix the error:

  • Clean windows install

  • SFC \scannow

  • Driver reinstalls

  • Chipset reinstall

  • Bios Flash

  • Reinstall device

  • Replaced the MUI file

  • Used AMD Radeon Utility to reset everything

PC Specs:

  • Mobo: MSI B550-a pro

  • Mem: 16GB 3200mhz

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

  • GPU: Radeaon RX 570 4GB

  • Storage: 1x M.2 Nvme (Boot), 1x SSD, 1x HDD

  • OS: Windows 10 x64 (19044.1526)

Same problem with Win11Pro (10.0.022622)

Ryzen 5950X

Radeon RX 5700XT

I *think* the trouble started when WinUpdate removed the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers and forced-installed the WHQL driver (which also broke the Adrenalin control panel - giving the long-lamented "Wrong Version" issue).

I've tried unplugging the network cable, DDU in Safe-Mode, and even manually ripped-out the Registry entries and inf files as well.

Then tried shoving in an ancient GeForce 8600GT while I repeated deleting anything I could find related to the Radeon.

DDU'd the Nvidia and fitted the Radeon back in. Installed the latest AMD driver, and then the error started started again.

If anyone ever solves this and posts here, I would be most grateful.

If you're confident in installing drivers, do yourself a HUGE favour and TURN OFF the Windows Update 'feature' that installs the latest (to Microsoft!) hardware drivers.

(Had no end of trouble with WinUpdate overwriting the Realtek HD Audio driver with generic default driver until I did this!)

If you don't know how -

run AdvancedSystemProperties.exe

You want to go to the Hardware tab >> Device Installation Settings

and change Automatically download from Yes to No.

It stopped WinUpd forcing OLD graphics and audio drivers on my PC, and now the card shows as working, but everytime I reboot, there's that blasted Device-Disconnected sound.

BTW, driver Properties >> Events tab reports that-

"Device PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_731F&SUBSYS_2398148C&REV_C1\6&18786a0b&0&00000019 requires further installation."

Grrr

Hey there, exact same issue down to the identical "Class Guid" code, "Problem" and "Problem Status". I am having this issue on my laptop Lenovo y520-15IKBA, Windows 10, RX 560 2GB, 16GB ram and 500GB M.2 Nvme. One thing I can tell you is that, it most probably isn't the M.2 since my laptop didn't come with one and I installed it a couple months back. It was all working fine until the latest Windows update/AMD 22.6.1 update. I have tried everything you have listed except a clean windows install which I have been apprehensive about cause of my 1TB+ games and software that I will have to reinstall and now after reading your post, I am even more apprehensive.

I have tried multiple times reinstalling the drivers from both Windows update and AMD after cleaning with DDU in Safe Mode but the GPU will not let me play games. After a fresh driver install (either Windows update and AMD), I get on League and 10 minutes in the screen will stutter and freeze, I can hear the sounds and everything running in the background but the screen is just frozen (GTA 5 throws up a "err_gfx_d3d_init" error and game crashes 2-3 mins in). Log out and log back in, check device manager and this is what it says:

Thinking it might be a heating issue (although temps on league didn't even hit 45C), I had FurMark running for an hour and max I hit was about 86C so clearly its not a hardware issue, as far as overheating is concerned. I think I have about exhausted all possible options to fix this madness. I guess I will just have to resign my fate to the integrated Intel HD630 for the time being and pray to God, AMD/Windows rolls out an update addressing this issue (which I am doubtful since not too many people seem to be facing this issue).

I am planning to build a PC in the near future and I probably will just switch to team green if this issue continues to persist. AMD has been griefing me ever since I bought it, granted it is a laptop and the card is no where close to a top end, I expected at least stable 60fps on medium settings at 1080 when it was operational. Anyways, no more ranting, do keep us updated if you find a solution.

Derrick Qian,

You provide two links, wonderful, that have absolutely zero chance of actually resolving this issue.

Link one is an unrelated issue, you would have realized if you had even read the first post in that subject (and the fact that the error message is completely different).
Link two literally has no information being provided by anyone, community or AMD, and is just a bunch of "Me Too" responses and one completely unhelpful person saying that AMD doesn't provide support for Windows 11 until Windows 11 supports their cards...

But, this post is after windows 11 released and you have nothing to suggest to resolve this issue.

Can we get someone who actually might be able to assist to weigh in on why WINDOWS, not AMD, is down grading the installed correct driver from AMD to a default non card specific driver.
And maybe even a temporary fix (shutting off the driver update feature in Windows 11 doesn't seem to stop it from happening or at least no one has said that this resolved their issues).

Sincerely,

A diehard Windows fan who just wants to use their computer uninterrupted by the stupidest error I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing...at least since we haven't had to fix interrupt errors.

Robert McClary
