Determine necessary system files on my computer

I had a HDD replaced with a SSD in my desktop computer and some the files from the old drive were transferred to the new drive (I think the OS was left on the HDD). I'm now looking at buying a new desktop and deleting unnecessary files from my old computer.

I can see that I have my OS in my C drive and other files in my D drive and I went to delete some files and it said they were 'system files', so I left them. I can see I have a 'Users' folder in my C drive and another one in my D drive - this is were some the old files from the old drive are located.

How can I tell what is important and what isn't?

Thanks.

Hi Stephen,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Before you delete any files, I need to check the partitions on your drives to ensure your PC will boot up if you delete anything form the D drive.

Right click your Start Button, and form the resulting menu, open Disk Management.

Expand the bottom pane in Disk Management so both drives are visible in the bottom pane, please provide a screenshot of that Disk Management window.

Dear Dave,

I've attached two screen shots, one of Disk Management, and the other of This PC

The important System files are on the C Drive, right? Apparently my Document folder is in the D drive, and some other folders from a previous HDD...

Looking forward to your advice....
