Hi there,
Can you help me get my Windows Task Scheduler to work please? I am going to provide as much detail as I can.
Aim: I want an .mp3 music file to play on Windows Media Player at 7am every morning. I am picking a time about 2 mins later than when I set the daily time for to try and immediately trial it.
Problem: It won’t run. Sometimes, there is no evidence of anything happening. Other times, it asks me what programme I want the file to be played with despite the file being set to play with Windows Media Player AND Windows Media Player being set as the default music player. I’ve tried, out of curiosity, to see what happens if I select Windows Media Player anyway and an error message appears (despite the file playing without issue on Windows Media Player when I open it manually from my folder). But, I stress, even if it was playing at this point, it would not suffice as it is asking me to select the programme it should be played with still (despite my comments above in bold). Unfortunately, I can’t re-create this at present in order to retrieve the error message; there is no sign of anything happening at the moment when I try to enact the Task Scheduler.
What I’ve tried:
As stated, I’ve checked that Windows Media player is set as the default music player and that themp3 file is set to only play with Windows Media Player.
I’ve checked and trialled different settings (e.g., ensuring its functionality is not dependent on the laptop being plugged in etc.).
My laptop is always awake and in operation mode when I trial this.
I am browsing for the mp3 file in the ‘program/script’ bar depicted in the printscreen below; I have tried locating the mp3 file in different locations (different folders and the desktop).
I have tried on two different laptops with the same issues.
I have tried selecting Windows 10 in the option that appears regarding what to configure ths settings for (I’ve also tried leaving it as the default Windows 8).
I’ve tried selecting and de-selecting ‘run when the user is logged in’.
What else can I do? Do I need to add anything to the “add argument” and “start in” boxes depicted in the printscreen below?
I want to do this ASAP to protect my rescue dog from shot sounds that she can hear in our house.
Many thanks for your help 😊 NB: Unfortunately, the insert image function here is not letting me insert my printscreen, so I cannot :(
