Desktop screen brightness problem

I accidentally hit a bunch of keys on my keyboard all at the same time and now my main monitor screen on my desktop windows 10 computer is very dim. It seems to be stuck like this and I can't find a solution in settings. My secondary monitor has no such problem but when I use the Windows & Tab keys shortcut to show all my open windows my secondary monitor goes black. My other new problem is with my mouse. On my secondary monitor it feels sharp as per usual, but on my primary my cursor feels very laggy and slow. Not sure how I managed to create these problem but it must have been some sort of key shortcut. Might anyone know what it is?

Hello Will _08 and welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for your feedback, I'll take a look at the issue for you.

You can try the following to see if that helps you

1) Check the physical buttons or function keys

Verify that the monitor's physical brightness adjustment button (usually on the monitor bezel) is not pressed by mistake.

Check the brightness shortcut keys on the keyboard (e.g. Fn + F2/F3, F1/F2, etc.) and try to press Fn + Brightness Increase to restore the brightness.

2) Disable Automatic Brightness Adjustment

Right-click Desktop > Display Settings > click “Advanced Display Settings” > disable “Auto Brightness Adjustment” (if it exists).

3) Check the graphics card control panel

1. NVIDIA graphics card: Right-click Desktop > Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Adjust Desktop Color Settings > Check if the brightness and contrast are abnormal.

2. AMD graphics card: Right-click Desktop > open AMD Radeon Settings > Display > Adjust Brightness and Contrast.

3. Intel Core Display: Right-click Desktop > Graphics Properties > Display > Adjust Color Settings.

4) Reset monitor driver

Press Win + Ctrl + Shift + B to force a graphics driver refresh (the screen will blink once).

For the problem of black screen of auxiliary monitor when Win+Tab switching, you can refer to the following methods

1) Disable task view animation

Open Settings > System > Multitasking > Disable animation option under “Show windows in task view”.

2) Disable Hardware Acceleration

1. Applicable to some graphics card issues:

2. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings.

3. Turn off the Hardware Acceleration GPU Program (if present).

3) If the above problem still exists, we suggest you can create a new account to test to see if the problem still exists and if it is caused by some account file corruption

1. Search for CMD, then run it in administrator mode and enter the following command

net user USERNAME PASSWORD /add

2. After the command runs successfully, enter the following command

net localgroup administrators USERNAME /add

Note: USERNAME PASSWORD can be replaced by the account name and password you want, if you do not need a password you can not fill in the PASSWORD!

We look forward to hearing from you again!
