Hi Rizwana,

Dedicated video graphic memory can be changes in BIOS. It is one of the BIOS feature.  I would suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer or refer the computer manual.

http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support.html

Note: Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

You may also try updating the latest BIOS updates from the manufacturer’s website and check if it helps in changing video memory.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, let us know and will be glad to help.

Hi Rizwana,

There are three different things of a 'Total available graphics memory'
1. Dedicated graphics memory - RAM physically in the graphic card. Every graphic card has it. Built-in graphics solution don't have this.
2. Dedicated system memory - RAM in your system but ONLY used by the graphics solution built-in to your system (It is not applicable if you have a separate graphic card).
3. Shared system memory - RAM in you system that can by used by the graphic card or built-in graphic solution AND also used by your CPU.

You could change the amount of shared memory, if the BIOS allows it. You cannot change the amount dedicated system memory If you don't have a built-in graphic solution.

I would suggest that you download and install the Graphic drivers from the links provided below.

Download the drivers mentioned below:

AMD Graphics Driver for Integrated and/or discrete Graphics Solutions (Microsoft Windows 7/Windows 8/Windows 8.1) (International)  Image

Intel Graphics Driver (64-bit) (International

NVIDIA 64-Bit Graphics Driver for Non-HDMI Graphics Cards (International

Hope the information provided helps.

Hi Rizwana,

Dedicated memory is which provided by your graphic card itself. It is designed into your graphic card. It's fast and effective on your performance.

Shared memory is a part of RAM shared with graphic card. but it's much slower than dedicated memory.

The  total memory is total of shared memory and Dedicated Memory.

In your case it is:

1695 - 1631 = 64

So you have 64mg dedicated memory.

To check the memory allotment please refer these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Desktop and click Personalize.
  2. Click Display in the bottom left corner of the Window.
  3. Click the Change display settings on the left column.
  4. Click the Advanced settings link to view a windows similar to the below example. As can be seen in this example, you can view the total available memory to the graphics card as well as the dedicated memory. The dedicated memory is how much memory your video card has.

Note:

To increase the dedicated graphic memory you will have to buy new graphic card.

Hope the information provided helps.

Hi Rizwana,

Thank you for replying.

Shared memory is memory that's cannibalized from your system RAM to be used as additional video memory and it changes once you use it. So before the Video Dedicated memory was available 64 MB and now it is being shared.

There are many graphic card available in the market. The graphic card should be compatible both with the operating system as well as the Motherboard. Please check with the computer manufacturer for assistance on upgrading a graphic card.

Thank you.

Hello Rizwana,

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum. We would be glad to help you.

Memory allocated to graphic card can only be changes from the BIOS as suggested by John Rubdy on January 2, 2014.

  1. When do you get the error message?
  2. Are you trying to buy a new graphic card?

DDR stands for Double Data Rate.

Hence,

   DDR2 = 2x DDRs Rate
   DDR3 = 2x DDR2s Rate
   DDR5 = 2x DDR3s Rate

In general, a GDDR5 is faster than GDDR3. In addition to being faster, GDDR5 draws less power. However, this only holds within the same card model number. So the GDDR5 version is both faster and more energy-efficient than GDDR3 versions of the same card.

But, the model number of the graphic card also plays a major role. So, a GDDR5 version of an older card might be slower than the GDDR3 version of a newer card.

I would also suggest you to get assistance from a local tech shop in case you need to buy a new graphic card.

Hope this information is helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to help.

Thank you.
