Debug.log on desktop

I turned on my computer one time, and suddenly I got a debug.txt file on my desktop with the following text:

[1010/193655.954:ERROR:settings.cc(430)] Settings version is not 5

[1010/194817.397:ERROR:directory_reader_win.cc(43)] FindFirstFile: The system cannot find the path specified. (0x3)

I make restore points every few days, but can someone tell me how to fix this issue? I didn't get a blue screen, and I experienced this on my Surface Laptop 3. Please help!

Hi Parn,
I am Sumit, an Independent Advisor and a 3 year Windows Insider MVP here to help.

This was likely created by a 3rd party software(maybe crash info) - I have seen it before as well on the forums. You should delete the file, that is not a problem.

I've run multiple Windows Defender scans, and all of them say that my device is fine. Is there anything I can do to prevent this problem from happening again?

Thanks Parn. The file doesn't have a malware that is for sure. A debug file contains the errors usually which the program encountered while updating or installing.

Do you remember installing a program around the time the file appeared?

No, the last time I installed a program was a few days ago. However, I doubt that the program was the problem, since the program I downloaded is a driver updater from Intel.

However, I do deploy apps each day, since I'm a programmer. Maybe that could have something to do with the issue?

I use Visual Studio Community 2019, just so you can make sure.

Hi Parn23

Do you use the Chrome web browser, or a Chromium based browser?

If so, that Debug.log file is known to be caused by the Chrome web browser, and Google recommend re-installing the browser totally to stop the creation of the Debug.log file on your Desktop . . .

Quite possible that the driver updater would add this kind of file.

I use the Chrome browser on my computer, instead of a Chromium based browser like Edge.  I'll reinstall it.

I doubt that an Intel product would do such a thing, so I checked the copyright information of the product to see if it was malware. It lead to Intel's site, so it seems legit. But, just to be safe, I deleted the updater anyway since I don't need it.

But if possible, can someone tell me what the text in the file meant?

It likely listed the errors/warnings encountered during the driver updates/warnings.
