Custom folder icons on Networked drives

I have literally hundreds of folders on several networked drives that I created custom icons for. As of the 22H2 Windows 11 Pro update, they have all disappeared. If I roll back the update, they all appear again. Has anyone else encountered this, and does anyone have a fix for it?

If you are running Windows 11 Pro you can use the Group Policy Editor to fix this by enabling the group policy for "Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons" in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates, Windows Components > File Explorer.

Enabling this has fixed it on each computer affected.

If you are running Windows 11 Home, there are a number of ways to install the Group Policy Editor to be able to do this.

Hi MartinWalker5,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

There are many people reporting this problem with custom icons in version 22h2, it is some sort of a bug and curranty there is no fix for this.

Please open the Feedback Hub (Windows Key + F) and report this bug to the developers there, the more people who report the bug, the sooner they will provide a patch for the bug,
