Cursor does not reach the second monitor

I have a Dell notebook and a monitor connected to it. After I installed Windows 11 the cursor of the mouse doesn't move from one screen to the other. Sometimes it is stuck on the laptop and sometimes it does not go out of the monitor. The mouse settings page informs there is a corrupt or inexistent file: c: \users\

the instructions suggested to fix corrupt files SFC /Scannow andDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth didn't work.

How can I get a clean cursor file?

Hi RicardoOMaciel,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community.

It sounds like the cursor of your mouse sometimes is stuck on your laptop and sometimes it does not go out to the second monitor after you update to Windows 11. Feel free to correct me if my understanding is biased. Kindly try the solutions below to check the effect.

1. Connect your mouse to another device to see if this issue reappears. If it works well on another device, you can move on to the next step.

2.  Press the Windows key + P hotkey to open the sidebar shown below.Image

Select the Duplicate display mode setting mode there. Then select Extend again to go back to the extended display mode.

3. Press Windows key +R hotkey > Enter: regedit and click OK > Go to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Cursors\Schemes > Delete the mouse solution that comes with the damaged system.

If you could not find Cursors\Schemes , create a new key and check if the problem is solved.

Feel free to keep me posted.

Hi Lynn, thanks much for your answer.

In fact, the mouse keeps stuck sometimes on the PC, sometimes on the decond monitor. When it is stuck in the monitor I am not able to operate de pc, and I have to turn off the machine and turn on it again. Restart does not work. I will try the second suggestion because I don't have another device to connect the mouse. Also, the mouse was working fine until I have to reinstall Windows 11.

I just did the change to duplicate and back to extended. Same problem. When duplicated, I can see two cursors, and they stod at the edge of the screen in both screens. When extended, the mouse is stuck in the pc (however, sometimes it goes to the monitor and stays there).

I went to the registry and looked for the corrupted file (c:\users\

Good day! RicardoOMaciel,

Thanks for your update.

Try to create a new local account and check the behavior of the cursor in this account. If it works well, locate to the path and check if new files exist in path C: \Users\

Do let me know if any updates.

Lynn, I feel that there is no solution for my issue with the current Windows 11 installation. I was hopping that someone could come with a clean file for the one that was missing, but I believe this is not possible. So, I will reinstall Windows 11 once more (second time). If this doesn't work, I will return to Windows 10, as it was suggested by a technician in Brazil. I thank you very much for your attention.

Hi RicardoOMaciel,

Thanks for your information. It's an optional choice in this case to perform an in-place update of your Windows 11, or as you mentioned, reinstall it.

Wish you good luck with it. And it will be my pleasure if I'm able to help you to some extent.

If you have any confusion about the specific implementation steps, feel free to reach back.
