CPU not supported on windows 10 install- with an intel core 2 duo

When I obtained Windows 10, I ran the upgrade file. Suddenly, the error message stated that my Intel Core 2 Duo CPU was not supported, and in brackets the words "NX".

I have windows 7 home. Is there any way this could be fixed?

Hi Ray,

The upgrade checker could be inaccurate. I've seen many instances of the checker reporting false information and this one in particular is awfully common.

Try opening Device Manager and expand the Processors section to look at your CPU model. Then do a Google search to see if it does in fact support NX.

Sometimes your CPU will support NX but it is turned off in the BIOS. To enable it, press F2 for Dell or Esc for HP or something similar on bootup to go into the BIOS and turn it on. Could be labled Excute Bit Disable or CPUXD.

Hope this helped.

I've tried looking at the BIOS but it doesn't say anything about NX, only the boot order and the Disk passwords.

Maybe you have to contact your PC provider for that.

I wonder why we don't know what kind of computer you have or any details about it that would help resolve the question.

Maybe because nobody has asked.

Describe how you "obtained" Windows 10....  was it the now expired offer to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 offered from Microsoft, did you purchase an installation CD/DVD, etc.

What is your system make and model - or is it a home built system?

If a Dell system what is the Service tag number?

If you do this we will know what you have and might be able to find out for sure:

Click the Start button/orb in the lower-left corner of your screen. Or, press the Windows logo key on your keyboard.

In the box enter:

msinfo32

Select/click msinfo32.exe and the System Information dialog box will open.

Click on System Summary, click Edit, Select All (Ctrl-A), Copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl-V) the information back here in your next reply.

What is the make and model of your computer?

Which Core 2 Duo are you using? You can go into Device Manger to check. Expand the processors section like below:

Hi aakkam22,

I have an Intel core 2 Duo T700 cpu, my computer model name is an acer aspire 7720g.

I seem to have trouble seeing if it supports NX. Any help would be extremely helpful,

Ray

all Intel processors since P-IV Prescott have XD / NX instruction
- XD was an initial implementation of NX

however, the BIOS must also have the support

if there is no XD / NX setting in the BIOS then the system will not support the XD / NX instruction on the CPU

I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !
