Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
If clicking on the Copilot icon in the Windows 11 taskbar opens Microsoft Edge instead of the expected Copilot functionality, this could be due to a misconfiguration. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
1. Check for Windows Updates
Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated, as updates often include fixes for known issues:
Go to Settings > Windows Update.
Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
2. Restart Your PC
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve unexpected behavior:
Click on the Start button, then Power, and select Restart.
3. Reset Microsoft Edge
There may be a misconfiguration with Edge that is causing it to open unexpectedly:
Open Microsoft Edge.
Click on the three dots (...) in the upper right corner and select Settings.
Scroll down and click on Reset settings.
Select Restore settings to their default values and confirm.
4. Check Copilot Settings
Verify that Copilot is configured correctly:
Go to Settings > System > Multitasking.
Ensure that settings related to Copilot are enabled and configured correctly.
5. Re-register Copilot
Re-registering the Copilot app using PowerShell can sometimes fix issues:
Right-click on the Start button and select Windows Terminal (Admin).
Run the following command:
Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
6. Check Default Apps
Ensure that Edge is not set as the default app for something it shouldn't be:
Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps.
Scroll down and check if Edge is set as the default for anything unusual.
7. Scan for Malware
Malware or unwanted software can sometimes cause unexpected behavior:
Run a full system scan using Windows Security:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
Click on Quick scan or Full scan.
8. Create a New User Profile
Sometimes, user profile corruption can cause unexpected issues. Creating a new user profile can help determine if this is the case:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
Click Add account under Other users.
Follow the prompts to create a new user account.
Log in with the new account and check if the issue persists.
9. Use the Feedback Hub
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, report the problem to Microsoft through the Feedback Hub.
Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.
Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
