Computer freezes at various places

Earlier today, I restarted my computer to install a windows update. Everything was working fine. Later, my computer said it had to restart to install updates for McAfee livesafe so I restarted. After this, my computer stopped working, I was able to log in and start google chrome but then the taskbar froze and google chrome didn't work properly. I held down the power button to restart. Afterwards, my computer froze at the welcome screen. I restarted multiple times with the computer freezing at either the welcome or login screens. Occasionally I was able to log in and start google chrome but then the computer froze. I tried searching up fixes and put the computer into safe mode and was able to log in. I then took the computer out of safe mode and was able to log in. I started google chrome and then it froze. Google chrome became unresponsive and after a few minutes a black screen appeared. I was able to move my cursor. I'm not sure what to do.

I use windows 10 dell G3 15

Hi,

Try rebooting to safe mode again and uninstall Mcafee. See if this fixes the Problem.

If this doesnt work, try rebooting to safe mode with command Prompt and type the follwing commands:

chkdsk c: /f

sfc /scannow

reboot via:

shutdown -r -t 0

(dont know if this is gonna work in safe mode, if now, just restart via power button.)

Regards,

LightJack

No backup, no pity!

Hi turseturtle,

I'm Paul, an Independent Advisor and a Windows 10 expert. I hope I can help you with your concern.

Please try the following.

1. Uninstall the recent updates in Safe Mode.

2. Use System File Checker to check and fix corrupted system files which may be the cause of the issue. Please refer to the link.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/402652...

3. Use System Restore to restore your Windows to the point before the issue persists.
Open Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection > System Restore then follow screen instructions.

4. Run a Windows Defender Scan.

If the above solutions didn't help, try to perform a clean boot and see if the PC is still freezing in clean boot.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
