coloring scrollbar

I have followed Community advice on how to get more visible scrollbars. Nothing brings improvement, but I did discover that there is supposed to be a way to color the scrollbar column, and to give the blob a contrasting color. That should solve my problem, but the prescribed method does not work. What I have done:

From https://HTML Color Codes, I selected two colors and noted down the RGB three-part number code for each.

From Start, I searched Regedit; assured Windows that I did want the Registry Editor to make changes; doubleclicked on HKEY_CURRENT_USER; doubleclicked on Control Panel; clicked on Colors; doubleclicked on ScrollBar; and typed in the RGB code for one of the colors.

Beginning again, I doubleclicked on HKEY_CURRENT_USER; doubleclicked on Control Panel; clicked on Desktop; clicked on Colors; doubleclicked on Scrollbar; and typed in the RGB code for the other color.

Nothing happened. No colors on scrollbar, column or blob. What did I do wrong?

Hi Sonntaggs. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

That color fix is only for Windows 10. It may not work for Windows 11. Make sure to set a System Restore point first then compare what you did with these:

I did, too. It needs more time to mature.

If you want to go back to Windows 10 then you have ten days to roll it back as shown here: https://www.howtogeek.com/751145/how-to-downgra....

If you're unsure and it's still within the 10 day period, you can extend it as shown here: https://www.droidwin.com/extend-10-day-windows-...

After more than ten days it requires a Clean install. This gives the opportunity to do a gold standard Clean Install which compiles the best possible Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... Read over it first, take notes, ask back any questions so you're prepared.

To create bootable Windows 10 Installation Media (on another PC if necessary) install Media Creation tool and follow the steps toward the bottom of the download page here in the section "Using the tool to create installation media:"
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-downlo...

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key for your PC maker given in this chart: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, then on second screen choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, select the Unallocated Space, click Next to let it create and format the needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof.

You will get and keep the best possible install to the exact extent you stick with the steps, tools and methods in the linked tutorial. It's a great learning experience that will make you the master of your PC because you will learn everything that works best and how to apply it with your own hands.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Report back results for more steps if necessary.

Sounds great, but I am over the ten days and can't possibly do a clean install and lose all my files. I guess I am stuck with bloody eleven. By this time I kind of hate it. The idea of minimalism sounds fine, but what it means in practice is text in a small size light font in grey or light blue letters on a white background. I can always switch to bold white letters on a black background, but no thanks. This goes with the invisible scroll bars and other such like junk. I don't like it. My experience has been with good and bad versions of windows leapfrogging one another. I started with ME (bad), then XP (good), then I skipped Vista (bad) and got 7 (good), for a couple of days had 10 (good?), and now must suffer with 11 (bad).

If you don't have your files backed up then you are valuing them at nothing. Your files should be backed up at all times because a hard drive can die at any time without notice. Besides periodically dragging or copying your User folders to an external USB drive (which you should keep unplugged to protect from ransomware), I would also have a secondary method using the cloud which is fire and theft proof:

You can drag 5gb for free into OneDrive app to store in the cloud where they are safe from fire and theft, which will also let you backup your Documents, Pictures and Desktop folders using Folder Protection Backup: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/116029-turn...

If you install Google Drive, you can use their new Desktop to choose User folders (Documents, Pictures, etc.) to sync up to 15g for free to their cloud:
https://support.google.com/drive/answer/7329379

Another important backup is to periodically make a System Image backup that can restore C in less than an hour by applying the stored image you made. If you include your files in this backup then it can also be mounted to extract files separately, which makes it a file backup, too. For this task I recommend free Macrium Reflect, which is the choice of all experts because it is flexible and just works. More here:
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7363/macrium-re...

I hope it helps. Feel free to ask any questions.
