Clean install of Win 7 fails with ACPI.sys and bluescreen stop error: 0x0000007E.

I am trying to do a clean install of windows 7 professional (32-bit) on my ASUS X61SL notebook. Initially there was Vista Home Premium (32-bit) running on that notebook.

After starting the boot and windows 7 loading the files and the starting windows comes the bluescreen saying:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000420, 0x8EB256C6, 0x8A386640; ox8A386170)

ACPI.sys - Address 8EB256C6 base at 8EAD7000, Datestamp 4CE78F21

I tried a BIOS update already and a full wipe of the HDD as that was recommended by the ASUS support. Nothing worked and not even the ASUS support has any more ideas how to get win 7 to run.

Answer

OK, how many RAM do you have ?

I found this information:

However I remembered seeing something on the web about Microsoft 64 bit systems being unhappy with 4GB of ram during the install process ....so I pulled 2GB of ram and the install went ahead OK ! I'll put the memory back later.

I know - you try to install only 32bit Win7 SP1, but you can try it.
