Change local account password in Windows 10

Original Title: Windows 10 password

I was using pin to login to my laptop for past one year. Recently I tried to login using password but realized that I have forgotten my password. when I tried to reset password I was unable to do it (it requires old password). My laptop is not associated with Microsoft (Hotmail) account (i.e. I had set password on local account). Is there anyway around to reset password?

Please help.

Hi Wasif,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Please go through the User Account panel and check if you are able to change it.

  • Press Windows key + R.

  • Type netplwiz and hit Enter.

  • Under User account windows, select the User Profile for which you need to change the password and select Reset Password.

  • Enter the New password and confirm the password and click OK
    Click Apply/OK.

  • But the User Profile from which he executes these steps should have administrator privileges.

Hope it helps.

Thank & Regards,

SuJata Moktan.
