Change domain password in Windows 8

Original title: Change domain password

Hi!

Under Windows 7 this was easy: Ctrl+Alt+Del, In the logon screen Type the username with the domain and Change Password. This doesn't exist anymore in Windows 8.

How do I change the password of a domain my pc is not current member of?

regards.

Hi,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community Forums.

As per the description, you want to change the domain password in  Windows 8. I'll definitely help you.

Whenever a user account is created in Windows 8 a password is assigned to the account by the administrator of the operating system. However if users want they can change their passwords according to their needs. Settings for whether users can change their passwords on their own or they need to request the administrators to do so can be configured by the administrator(s) only.
Whatsoever the case is, if as a Windows 8 user you want to change your password you are required to follow the steps given as below:

1. Logon to the computer on which Microsoft Windows 8 operating system is installed.
2. Type Control Panel on start page
3. From the available options on the screen click on Control Panel.
4. On the opened window in the left pane click on Users option.

5. From the right pane click on Change your password option available under Your account label.

6. On Change your password page type in your current password in the available field and click on Next button.

7. On the next Window type and re-type your new password along with the password hint in New password, Retype password and Password hint fields respectively and click on Next button.

8. On the next Window click on Finish button to save the changes.

From the radio silence I understand that currently it is not possible to change the domain password from within Windows 8.

Workaround: Luckily we have webmail here, so I can change the password from there.

Personally I think this question is perfectly suitable for these forums.

I have the same problem. Under previous Windows versions you were able to change the password for a different user than the currently logged in user. You just had to do CTRL+ALT+DEL and in the Change Password screen you typed a different username. Ideal for quickly changing the password of a domain user. In Windows 8 it looks like this feature is gone.

Excellently and eloquently put, mr. LZandman. Exactly what I meant.

In these days of BYOD it is fairly common that the account one is working under is not a domain account. This wasn't a problem in WinXP through Win7. Win8 apparently dropped this type of visiting domain support altogether.

Most likely companies have OWA setup and it is possible to change the password in there. But this is quit a feeble work around.

It currently is not possible to change the password for a domain account in Windows 8. Microsoft technicians are working on this and might offer it in future versions of the product.

How about doing CTRL-ALT-DEL and clicking on "Change password"?  It just worked for me.  Mark THAT as answer :)

Did you even read this thread? Windows 8 no longer offers that method.

I don't know what version of Windows 8 you're on, but my Windows 8 has a change password on the menu when I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL while signed in with a domain account.

And, "theking2"-

1) Not once in Sandeep's instructions did he refer to a "Start Button"

2) Windows 8 does have a start button it's just different than before. Move your mouse to the bottom left corner of your screen and right-click. Then you will see a menu that may help you.
