Can't sign in to Microsoft account in Windows 10 - error says "Something went wrong. Please try again later. 0x8007003B"

Just tried to sign in to MS store and after entering my pin I received the message "Something went wrong. Please try again later. 0x8007003B". I went to Settings and there's a message saying "You need to update some info for your Microsoft account" but when I click to do so I'm again asked for my pin, and receive the same error message. I don't think I can sign into the account at all from Windows. Can someone help?

Dear michaelroy39,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing difficulties signing in to your Microsoft account, and you are getting the error message: "Something went wrong, try again later. 0x8007003B."

This error is usually associated with network issues or potentially corrupted system files. I'll walk you through a few steps to help resolve the issue.

Follow these troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Check your internet connection. Make sure your internet connection is stable and strong. To check this, open a web browser and test several websites to confirm that they load smoothly. If you're using a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection, try switching to a wired Ethernet connection for better stability. Alternatively, you can try connecting to a mobile hotspot and then try to sign in again.

If you notice any network instability, you can reset your network settings:

  • Press Win + I to open the Settings window.

  • Click on Network & Internet.

  • In the status section, on the right side, scroll down and click on Network reset.

  • A new window will inform you that this will remove and reinstall all network adapters and set other networking components back to their default settings.

  • Click the Reset now button.

  • You’ll see a confirmation dialog prompting you to confirm your action. Click Yes to proceed.

Step 2: Check the date and time settings. Incorrect date and time settings can cause problems accessing Microsoft services.

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.

  • Go to Time & Language > Date & Time.

  • Make sure Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically are turned on.

Step 3: Clear the Windows Store cache. Sometimes, cached data in the Microsoft Store can cause sign-in issues. Resetting the repository cache can help:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.

  • Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.

  • A command prompt window will pop up and automatically reset the Windows Store cache. This process will be closed on its own once completed.

Step 4: Re-register the Microsoft Store and repair Outlook

  • Press Win + X and choose Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin).

  • Run the following command:

    Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

After following these steps, try signing in to your Microsoft account again. If the error persists or if you encounter other issues, feel free to update us here and we can continue to troubleshoot.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. I look forward to hearing from you the results!

Best Regards,

Martin | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
