Can't Send emails with mail.mchsi.com

I am using Windows 10 and Live Mail (from before I upgraded from 7 to 10).  My email worked fine for about a month after the upgrade - then out of the clear, cannot send emails.  My Internet provider (Mediacom) said my public IP was blacklisted due to spam and there was nothing they could do.  I ran Malwarebytes and full scan - only 28 tracking cookies found.  I changed outgoing and incoming to 465 and 995 (per their suggestion).  It did not work.  Later it did work.  Next day, it didn't work again.  Sometimes it's only blocking send.  Another time both send and receive. I've unplugged modem overnight to try and get new IP address.  Nope, same IP.  What the heck can I do.  I'm ready to just trash Live and use webmail from Mediacom (which I don't like).

The connection to the server has failed.

Subject 'test'
Server: 'mail.mchsi.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10013

[Original subject: Can't Send emails (Windows Live)]

The problem appears to be at Mediacom's end - their SMTP service has been broken for some weeks. It's possible that you can connect securely as follows:

Right-click on the account name in the folder pane and select Properties.

  • On the Servers tab

    • Ensure that the Email username is your full email address

    • Ensure that Log on using clear text authentication is selected

    • Select My server requires authentication

  • On the Advanced tab

    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for outgoing mail.

    • Change the server port for outgoing mail to 465

  • Click Apply and OK

Remove any unsent messages from the outbox (below the account folders in the folder pane), then close down Windows Live Mail and wait a few minutes while the program does its housekeeping and stores the new security settings. Then re-launch the program, compose a new test message with a unique subject and send it to yourself. Post any new error message in your reply.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you!

On the Server tab, I changed my incoming and outgoing from mail.mchsi.com to mail.mediacombb.net.

My email server name had been only the first part of my email address so I added @mchsi.com to it per your instructions.

My server requires authentication on the server tab is unchecked.

On the Advanced tab, I used 465 for outgoing and 995 for incoming.

This server requires a secure connection is checked for both outgoing and incoming mail.

It seems to now be working for both sending and receiving mail, although a sent 'test' email goes into the Outbox first for just a second and then disappears.  I do receive it shortly thereafter.

I'm not holding my breath, but sure hope these changes do the trick!  Sure do appreciate your help!

Glad to hear it's working for you. But ...

I changed my and outgoing from mail.mchsi.com to mail.mediacombb.net.

Why?

My server requires authentication on the server tab is unchecked.

That should normally be selected when using port 465.

a sent 'test' email goes into the Outbox first for just a second and then disappears.

That's what normally happens. All sent messages pass through the outbox; they only stay there if (a) there's something wrong, or (b) you don't have Send messages immediately selected.

Why?  Mediacom had told me to do this when I "Chatted" with them last week.

My server requires authentication on the server tab is unchecked.

That's what normally happens. All sent messages pass through the outbox; they only stay there if (a) there's something wrong, or (b) you don't have Send messages immediately selected.  I wondered if that was normal, had never really paid any attention until this issue came up . . .

Well, this morning when I opened Live Mail, got this message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Mchsi account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.
Server: 'mail.mediacombb.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

Here we go again.  Closed Live Mail and reopened and the emails were delivered.  Sent a test email and it sent k(it's not in my outbox) but haven't received it yet.    Ugh, just ugh.

This continued for a few days - live mail stating can't connect to the server and either couldn't receive emails, send emails or both.  Close, re-open and could then receive and send.  But, after a few days, it started working okay when first opened and has been working properly now for the past week or so.
