can't "reply" to email, error: 0x800ccc0b

A couple of days ago I signed up for a gmail account.  I immediately started getting the following message when replying to mail arriving through the gmail account while using Windows Mail (Vista operating system): An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: test', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

is there a fix for this?

Did you configure your gmail account on the server to enable POP access?

Windows Mial by design is supposed to reject gmail account. Here is a little trick to make it work.

It is very simple > remove the gmail account and start fresh >
set up the gmail with the SAME settings, EXCEPT when it comes to entering e-mail address, give it a FAKE one, such as *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

Rubbish, gmail is simple to set up:

Ensure that you enable your account at the gmail site.

Hotmail accounts do require a trick to defeat the hard coding within WM.

Simply not true.  Windows Mail works with Gmail no differently than any other POP client.

You remember incorrectly. Gmail never required a workaround, only Hotmail.com and msn.com accounts.

Really. That " trick " was suggested to me by Gary VanderMolen about 2 years ago, and it worked for me.

Why don't you tell him that his idea is rubbish ?
