I can open my Photos folder and the sub folders but when I try to open an individual photo a pop up says system file error or the media is write protected. Help?!
Hi Julie, this may be caused by a new feature in Windows - Controlled Folder Access!
Controlled folder access is going to be a great feature in Windows 10 in the battle against malware like CryptoLocker . . . etc.
Open Windows Defender Security Center
Go to Virus & threat protection - Virus & threat protection settings
Scroll down to Controlled folder access
Temporarily turn that feature off
Check to see if you can open your photos
If so, from there, you can add an app (Photos) to the list of safe or allowed apps to prevent them from being blocked
Please Note, do not leave Controlled Folder Access disabled, you would leave your system open to a ransomware attack . . .
