Can't open Bitlock settings

Hey,

I activated Bitlock for my "non-Windows" Harddrive. After the encryption has finished, I activated Bitlock for my Windows Harddrive. After the restart nothing changed and now I can't open the Bitlock settings anymore; nothing happens when I try to open it.

Hope someone can help me.

Raylands

Hi Raylands,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

Appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

  • When you say ‘my "non-Windows" Harddrive’, are you referring to an external drive?

I can understand the situation must be difficult for you when the system doesn't work as it should. However, let us follow these methods and check if that helps.

You can use BitLocker to mitigate unauthorized data access on lost or stolen computers by encrypting all user files and system files on the operating system drive, including the swap files and hibernation files, and checking the integrity of early boot components and boot configuration data.

Device encryption helps protect your data by encrypting it. Only someone with the right encryption key (such as a password) can decrypt it. Device encryption is not available in Windows 10 Home.

Open Control panel and click on BitLocker Drive Encryption to open the BitLocker Settings.

Alternatively, you can also click the Start button and type Manage BitLocker. On the result menu, click the BitLocker option to open the screen.

Note: Dynamic disks are not supported by BitLocker. Dynamic data volumes will not be displayed in the Control Panel. Although the operating system volume will always be displayed in the Control Panel, regardless of whether it is a Dynamic disk, if it is a dynamic disk it is cannot be protected by BitLocker.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Srimadhwa B

Hi Srimadhwa,

thank you for your fast answer.

About the "non-Windows" Harddrive: I have 2 Hard drives, one SSD which is running Windows and my 6TB HDD (not external) which I use for everything else like programmes.

I recorded a short clip to show what happens or better what not happens when I try to open the bitlock settings
https://youtu.be/ILM5ttjAe0E

I am currently working from home, that's why I have to get the encryption working.

Hi Raylands,

Thanks for the reply with additional information and appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

I was able to go through the video clip that you have included and surely the manage bit locker screen does not open.

  • Were you able to follow the alternative step provided in the previous reply?

  • Do you have AVG's PC Tuneup component installed on the PC?

Reply with the status of the issue so that I can help you further.

Awaiting your reply.

Hey Srimadhwa,

I forgot to mention that the alternative steps you suggested did not work for me. Even stranger is that there is no Bitlock in my Control Panel...

Also, I don't have AVG's PC Tuneup component installed.

Thanks,

Raylands

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

  • When you right click your data drive, could you see “Turn on Bitlocker”?

Check your PC information and make sure you are using Windows 10 Pro edition.

Open Command Prompt in admin mode and type ‘control /name Microsoft.BitLockerDriveEncryption’. Pres enter to check if that helps.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

Hey,

I am using Windows 10 pro. Tried to open it via CMD but also didn't work.

Regarding the “Turn on BitLocker” via Windows Explorer:

On my already encrypted hard drive I have the option, but not on C. Opening Bitlock via "Manage BitLocker" doesn't work. But interesting is the "Change BitLocker password" option. I get following error message:

Hope this helps,

Raylands
