I used to plug in my CF card device (SanDisk), and automatically (plug and play) get the picture download stuff. Now all I get is a 'bong' sound. Can't install the scanner and camera installation wizard as it doesn't list Canom as a manufacturer.

I'm guessing your computer has a media reader you insert the card into?
If you go to...Start / Computer...there should be several drives listed
as...Removable Disk...these represent the slots of the media reader.
If you insert your memory card and right click the Removable Disk that
represents that slot you can choose Explore and see the contents of the
card. From there you can copy/paste or drag/drop the files to a folder
on your hard drive.
Also...right click the Removable Disk that represents the memory card
and from the menu...choose...Properties / Autoplay tab and open the drop
window and select Pictures. And...tick...'Prompt me each time to choose
an action'. Maybe this will restore the Autoplay window when you insert
the card.
