Can't add Netflix app to my kid's account (Family Safety monitored account)

Hi,

I cannot install the Netflix app to my kid's account, which is a Family Safety monitored account. How can I do so?

It does not show up in the list of Apps allowed (when I use a Surface). Using my kid's account on the desktop, the Netflix app doesn't even show up searching the Store.

Thanks,

Mariano

Hi Mariano,

Thanks for posting. I understand that you cannot install the Netflix app in your child's account. This can be caused by the age rating of the application which is 16 years old and above. For more information, you can visit this link. In case your child is below 16 years old, what I can suggest is for you to change the date of birth of the child so you can install. Here's how:

1. Sign in to https://account.live.com/

2. On Overview page, click on Edit Personal Info.

3. Change your birth date (mm/dd/yyyy).

4. Click Save.

Kindly update us afterwards.

Regards,

Richard

Hello

Netflix App is Rated M - Mature.  For Family Safety Monitored kids, if the Game Restrictions are turned on, depending on the  Setting you have ( below 10, teen, mature etc) , your child will only be able to download apps that meet the rating.

Here is what I suggest if you would like your child to play Netflix

Go to https://familysafety.microsoft.com and login as parent

Check Game Restriction setting for your child.

you can do one of two things

  • turn off Game restrictions or
  • Change the Game restriction to Mature

have your child login to PC at this point and they will see Nextflix app in the store which they can download.

once your child has downloaded the app, parent can  go back to familysafety site,  turn on the Game Restriction or adjust the game rating setting to one appropriate for your child.  Please do not  forget to turn this back on if you would like to protect your child from unwanted games.

Also, in the Game List for your childs account, ensure Netflix is in the allow list if your kid already has it but gets blocked by Family Safety due to permissions issue

thanks

Shankar
