Cannot open JPEG, PNG, BMP, or GIF File Container with Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10 64-bit Home

I am unable to open up either JPEG (Lossy Compression), GIF, BMP, or PNG (Lossless Compression) files with Microsoft Paint or Microsoft Photo but it's too slow and long to open. Instead, I want to open with Windows Photo Viewer, however, I can only open .tiff and .tif file container. Windows 7, on the other hand, used to work fine with Windows Photo Viewer to open up JPEG, GIF, BMP, or PNG files, but does not work in Windows 10 Home. Is there another way to open up JPEG, GIF, BMP, and/or PNG files without using Windows Photo or MS Paint?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. Welcome to Windows 10 family. If you could answer a few questions, it would help us to resolve this issue.

1. Do you get any error messages/codes?

2. Did you make any changes to the system prior to this issue?

3. From which location are you trying to view the files?

Try updating the graphics card drivers and check if it works.

Follow the steps to update the graphics card driver:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click on Device manager.

b. Search for Display Adapters.

c. Right-click on the graphics card and click on Update driver software.

Hope this information helps. Please post us if you need any help with Windows.

Thank you.

Thanks for your feedback.

1. I get no error. It automatically opens up with default Windows Photo and/or MS Paint

2. No changes have been made.

3. I tried viewing in Desktop location but it doesn't matter which location I open up any picture file container whether it's in PIcture folder, Desktop, Document Folder, etc.

My graphics driver is already updated. NVIDIA 353.62

Like I said, when I check Set Program Associations, Windows Photo Viewer can only open up .tif and .tiff but it's missing with most common file container which is BMP, GIF, JPEG, and PNG.
