Cannot find Windows Live Mail on Windows 10 after installing

So I took the plunge and accepted the free Windows 10 upgrade. Quite happy - even my Windows live mail was working - suddenly now it won't open. Somehow lost a file called WLDCore.dll. Now if Windows 10 supposed to be so fancy and cool - Why can't it sort out problems like that on its own?? It happened when I had Windows 7 and I found out about copying the file from one place and pasting in the Windows live mail folder. Well that doesn't work anymore! Anyone else got suggestions? I am too scared to uninstall and re-install it in case I lose all my contacts and messages.

I downloaded Windows Essentials as suggested elsewhere but cannot find it anywhere. Click on Start there is no search that I can see and nothing about Programs, only Apps. Another user was told to click on Start, Control Panel - well that isn't there anymore either!

Hi Sandy,

Please be informed that Windows Live Mail is an email client, which you can install on the computer. Further you may configure you email account on the application. This helps you to sync the mails and contacts from the account. Uninstalling only removes the application from the computer but does not affect the mails or contacts.

Hope this helps. Do get back to us, for any queries related to Outlook.com.

Thanks & Regards,

Windows key + S brings up Search. Type wlmail into the box and you should see something like this in the results:

Clicking on Run command will open the program. Right-clicking on wlmail will enable you to Open file location. You can then right-click on wlmail.exe and create the shortcut(s) you want: Pin to Start, Pin to taskbar or Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).

Hi - I found where to uninstall programmes/Apps but Windows Live Mail not on the list?? So i have no idea how to remove it before re-installing. I tried to just re-install it but all I get in Windows Essentials downloading and when it is finished downloading it is nowhere to be found.

Do you have any idea how I can get that missing file back?  I found it elsewhere on my computer and pasted it into the Windows Live folder under C: Programmes but that did not help at all.

Hi Sandy,

You may need to clean install Windows Essentials. Clean Install is different from manually removing then reinstalling the program. This process has steps that would permanently remove all Windows Essential related files on the system giving you a fresh new state to work on.

Before performing clean installation, please create the backup of the data.

For more information follow the below link.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-live/mail-import-backup-restore

1. Press Windows key, type cmd.

2. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.

3. Run the following commands to uninstall Windows Live Essentials (including the open quotation mark):

  • For 64-bit version of Windows type "c:\program files (x86)\windows live\installer\wlarp.exe" /cleanup:all /q
  • For 32-bit version of Windows type "c:\program files\windows live\installer\wlarp.exe" /cleanup:all /q

4. A dialog box shows status until uninstallation has completed.

5. Delete the Windows Live folders found on the following directories:

  • C:\Program Files\Windows Live
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live

Note: If there is more than one Program Files folder upon opening C drive, then double click on Program Files x86 instead.

6. Download widows essentials and install from the below link.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/essentials

Hope it helps. Please keep us posted with the status so that we can help you further.

Thanks & regards.
