I've got the same problem. I bought the Age of Empires III Complete Collection two weeks ago via steam.
Soon after I forgot my password. The following describes what I've tried until now, but
nothing worked yet.
First step: I tried to change it using the official Ensemble Studios Online-ESO-Account-Manager:

Unfortunately, I never received an email, althought I could correctly answer my own secret question. I also checked spam filters and so on.
Second step: was to contact the "official" support email addresses from:

From the first I've got an automatic answer with outdated help links. From the second nothing. A week later I've learned that the first support address isnt't "supported" anymore. Source (in german):

Third step: After that I've contacted the official Microsoft X-Box support like stated on the official website on the bottom:

The support guy was very kind there, yet he couldn't help me as they seem not to have access to Ensemble Studios.
Fourth step: So I tried it with Microsoft main support site, also very kind assistance, but no real help. She told me, that I should try Xbox-Support again, which I didn't do until now.
Fithth step: Posting this here, hoping to get helpful assitance. I've read some guys having the same problems a year ago, but all the links and forums are outdated and not active anymore.
Current situation: Still no multiplayer gaming possible without password, which is frustrating for a all new bought game. I could try to establish contact to the reponsible persons, for example
MS Ryz0n, Microsoft Studios Account Manager?
