Can I repair my BCD files from the system on a secondary drive?

Hi guys.

Last week, my laptop was down and went to bluescreen due to the following error:

---

The boot configuration data file is missing some required information

File: \Boot\BCD

Error code: 0x000000d

---

I tried many ways in repairing the laptop, including using a windows 10 usb and get in to the command prompt using bootrec  to fix and rebuild mbr and bcd files but none of them works. The access was all denied.

Luckily I got a secondary drive and the files on it was not so important. So I installed the windows 10 onto that drive. And now I am running my laptop on my secondary drive.

I successfully gained the access to my primary drive and unbitlockering it.

I am now wondering, is there any ways I can fix the boot information on my primary drive?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Player458034235

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Try booting again into the recovery environment.

Choose "Repair Computer", left lower corner. PC will restart. Now, we are in recovery manager. We are looking for "Use another operating system". There would be 2 or more instances of Windows 10. Choose the second or the third, machine will restart. Don`t boot again from recovery drive, you can pull it out. Your computer should start properly without any errors. Now we have to make a fix in bootloader. Start cmd as administrator and type:

bcdedit

Here you can find all your windows instances with identifiers. Find a registration with path \Windows\system32\winload.exe and check out the indentifier, it`s probably {current}. Type this, ID is your registration identifier:

bcdedit /default {ID}

For current you type:

bcdedit /default {current}

Restart your PC. The check if it boots up.

You can also delete corrupted instance, there should be "$" in its path. Use this:

bcdedit /delete {ID}

Here are some other things you can try:
