Can I disable defender since I have McAfee?

I am getting the error "Security Center failed to validate caller with error DC040780"

one of the answers (thread is locked) is to Disable defender.

I have subscription to McAfee, both antivirus and firewall and it is up to date.

Running  services.msc and in elevated mode, all controls are grayed out for both Defender antivirus as well as the firewall.

I don't think I need more than one antivirus.  This is Windows 10 pro with latest 1909 feature.

Hi Joseph

Yes, you can safely disable Defender if you have McAfee installed on your PC, you are correct, you only need one Security solution running on your PC and if both are running, they will be fighting for control of your PC and conflict . . .

Is there a way to do this without booting in safe mode?  The controls to disable are grayed out even in administrator level.   I was using service.msc to disable the auto start of defender.  Maybe there is another way.

When I go to settings and Windows Defender I read "These settings are being managed by vendor application McAfee:"

Hi Joseph,

If you installed McAfee it will automatically disable Windows Defender. However (IMO) I would have kept Defender. It is a Excellent Security Suit.  You mite want to check McAfee's Support Site to determine the Error you are receiving @ https://service.mcafee.com

Hello Joseph

This problem has already been addressed in mcaffee's support thread. There is a fix mentioned here: https://community.mcafee.com/t5/Consumer-Genera... that involves completely disabling it through the registry. This should fix your issue completely.
