Camera and mic not working on Windows 10

Hi, both camera and mic are not working on Windows 10. Just found out, and they used to work just fine. They don't even appear listed as devices in the device manager, so rolling back to previous ones and such would not be possible. Camera error is 0xA00F4244 <NoCamerasAreAttached>.

I have a Toshiba Satellite S50-B-12Q.

I'd really appreciate your help.

Hi FerAgorio, please try this,

Open the Settings App

Go to Privacy - Microphone

Make sure 'Allow apps to access your microphone' is turned on and make sure the appropriate app is also set to On

Go to Update & Security - Troubleshoot

Run these troubleshooters

Hardware and devices

Recording Audio

Take a look at this possible fix:

2018 05 28- IF YOUR USB HEADSET MIC STOPS WORKING, WINDOWS 10 ESPECIALLY AFTER UPDATE
https://microsoft-community.directly.com/p/4958...
<snip>
My USB headset Mic stopped working. Sounds was fine mic didn't work. I tried everything in all the forums, Different port, drivers, set as default, enable, check mute etc... everything.

This issue may happen after an update which sets your settings to default.

If you have this issue and nothing else works try going to:

Settings > Privacy Settings > All Apps to use Mic > (Enable)

Hi! Thanks for answering. Did as told, made sure the apps could access mic and ran both troubleshooters but nothing was found to troubleshoot... "windows could not identify the problem".

Do you know of something else I could try?

Thanks in advance

Mic:

What is the exact make and model?

Open Start, type: system information
Hit Enter
Click System summary
Look in the right pane

Copy the system sku info into reply here.

See example: https://imgur.com/qzektpA

First, run the Playing audio troubleshoot - open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down, select Playing audio
Click Run the troubleshooter

When complete, restart your computer then check if audio is working again.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Sound, video and game controllers

Right click your audio adapter
Click Properties
Click the Driver tab

Is there an option rollback?
If so, click it.

Also, check to make sure the audio driver is fully updated. This is often the problem when you upgrade to a new version of Windows 10. Sometimes reinstalling the latest available driver from the manufacturers website helps.

Open Start, type: change sound card
Hit Enter
Select the Playback
Right click your Speakers
Click Set as Default Device if it isn't already

Select your speakers
Click Properties
Click the Levels tab
Use the slider to adjust level

Other options:

1. Play a youtube video with the soundcard speaker jack unplugged and let it play through the laptop's inbuilt speakers.
2. While it is playing, plug in the audio jack and see if it starts playing.

Which version of Windows 10 is currently installed? See how to verify:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wik...

Which version and edition Windows did you originally upgrade from or was installed prior to your current version:

Windows 10 - 1703, 1607, 1511, 1507 (build 10240)

Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Windows 8.0 Core, Windows 8.1 Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.0 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro

CAMERA ISSUE:

Check for an outdated webcam driver

Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the search results.
Find your webcam under Imaging devices or Sound, video and game controllers.
Press and hold (or right-click) the name of your webcam, and then select Properties.
Select the Driver tab, select the Driver Details button, and look for a file name that includes stream.sys. If it’s there, your webcam was designed before Windows 7 and you'll have to replace it with a newer webcam.
If you don't find a file name that includes stream.sys, try rolling back your webcam driver.

Roll back your webcam driver

In Device Manager, press and hold (or right-click) your webcam, and then select Properties.
Select the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver, and then choose Yes. (Note that some drivers don’t provide a rollback option.)
After the rollback is complete, restart your PC, and then try opening the Camera app again.
If rolling back didn’t work or isn’t available, uninstall your webcam driver and scan for hardware changes.

Uninstall your webcam driver and scan for hardware changes

In Device Manager, press and hold (or right-click) your webcam, and then select Properties.
Select the Driver tab, select Uninstall > Delete the driver software for this device, and then select OK.
In Device Manager, on the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes. Wait for it to scan and reinstall updated drivers, restart your PC, and then try opening the Camera app again.
If your webcam still doesn’t work, try looking for help on the webcam manufacturer’s website.

If its Windows 10 1803:

There seems to be some early adopter issues at this time with Windows 10 1803, if you can, I recommend you downgrade to your previous version until the Spring Creators Update matures with future cumulative updates.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Recovery > under Go back to my previous version of Windows 10, click Get started.
or
Press Control + Alt + Delete
Click Sign out

At the Sign In screen, hold down the shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Power button on the screen
Continue to hold down the shift key while clicking Restart
Continue to hold down the shift key until the Advanced Recovery Options menu appears

Click Troubleshoot

Click Advanced options

Click Go back to the previous version of Windows

Windows Update might attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 1803 again. See instructions how to block it:

I am afraid it says "invalid" ?? To try and answer your question anyway, it would be Conexant SmartAudio HD. I upgraded the driver and now mic appears but does not work. It's there but does not pick any sound. I plugged an external mic and it did work.

The thing with my webcam is that I can't even find the driver listed. It's as though I have never had a built'in camera. It's weird. I just found out and upgraded windows in late may, so I can't roll back to 1709 (Yes, it's 1803...). It's such a shame the roll back period isn't longer...

Thanks anyway for your help. :) If you happen to know something else I could try, please do tell! Thanks again
