BSOD - volmgr 161, then Kernel-Power 41

My computer has crashed twice this week with the BSOD. The unit is barely 3 weeks old. I'd bought a new computer because my older computer had the same exact issue.

 I'm using Windows 10 64-bit.

Here are screenshots from the Event Manager. It looks like my system is not creating any crash dump files:

I've included CBS log file here:

I am having the same problem, with the same messages and when I try to run msdt.exe -id I get the following:

Error occurred while loading the troubleshooter: An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue

Package id: Unknown

Path: Unknown

Error code: 0x80070057

Source: Command line

Context: Elevated

I am running a Insiders build 20226. I tried it without the -id at the end and it asked for a password. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike Halvorsen

I was running into the same issue with a Windows Surface Laptop-2

Basically getting the: volmgr 161 kernel-power 41 combo BSOD every few days (2-3).

I learned that is was most likely due to a incompatibility with the driver for the system processor.

To Fix I went into Windows Update

Selected the blue line "View optional updates"

Click on the >Driver Update   arrow

Then there was a box for the Intel Core i7 processor
Checked the box and clicked [Download and install]

It has now ben 10 days where I have not see the volmgr 161 kernel-power 41 combo BSOD

Hopefully this helps

-Ziggy

Hey Rory I've been encountering the same issues and when I go to the optional updates > drivers I see one box for an update but it doesn't seem that it's a driver for the system processor. It is named Lenovo ltd. Firmware 1.34.0.0. Do you think updating this could still help me anyway?

Zilesklekovi,

The Lenovo ltd. Firmware 1.34.0.0. is the update for the AMD processor which is what you would have in your computer.  This update should be a big help with reducing the  volmgr 161 kernel-power 41 combo BSOD.  So ,yes I would recommend conducting the "Lenovo ltd. Firmware 1.34.0.0." update.

I also want to follow-up that once in a while maybe every 1 - 2 weeks I still get the BSOD , but this is definitely much better than multiple time per day.

Hope this helps

Best

-Rory

Also, could a heated laptop be the cause of this problem if it's not the drivers? Will getting a laptop cooling pad or something of that nature aid me?

Zilesklekovi,

I don't think the volmgr 161 kernel-power 41 combo BSOD is due to a high laptop temperature.  Although when running larger calculations (projects that may take 15+ minutes of data crunching) I do place my laptop on a cooling pad for that time.  I generally don't use a cooling pad for general use but also the laptop is not heating up.  If your is heating up then would highly suggest a cooling pad.
