BSOD due to ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlmp.exe

Hello Everyone,

My computer fails with BSOD generally while gaming during load heavy games, looks like all caused due to ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlmp.exe.

Several times I ran Windows memory diagnostic, Memtest86, sfc /scannow, /scanhealth but always came out with no issues.

Driver Verifier once came with the vgk.sys which comes from a anti cheat system from a game that I've now deleted but BSOD still happen.

I've installed clean Windows 10 twice, reinstalled new drivers from manufacturers everytime and still have the same recurring BSOD but almost always a different error name

Could you please help me to understand the reason of the issue, is it really a driver or could it be a hardware issue like the ram?

Hi LuluberluCF,

I'm Paul, an Independent Advisor. I hope I can help you with your concern.

I will first recommend that you update BIOS if it's available.

If that didn't help, try to test hardware components.

1. Test GPU using Furmark.
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/13081-furma...

2. Test the RAM using MemTest86.(Make sure to have at least 8 full passes)
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/14201-memte...

Let me know the result.
Thanks.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for taking the time to help!

I've updated the BIOS, last month, to the newest stable version which is the F32 and I didn't notice any change

I've tried Furmark as you suggested, during the first test at 1080p resolution the pc crashed after a few minutes (I'll link the log file and the dmp below) and the second test at 1440p the test ran for 30min without any issues but the log never registered (should I run it for longer?)

I'll try to run the Memest86 again and will update you the results as soon as possible

Thanks again

Hello Paul,

Sorry about that, I've created a new link for the dmp files, you should have access now

So memtest just finished its 8 passes and it looks like there was no issues, I've tested all sticks of ram at once, should I try to test them all individually?

I put the memtest log in the drive link as well

The recent minidump and memory dump file didn't name any driver. It still indicated "ntkrnlmp.exe".

I can't think of any other solution. Let see if other community experts can give you different solutions. I hope someone will be able to help you.

I apologize for not being able to solve the issue.

Thanks for your time.

Hey there Lulu!

My name is Miguel Ángel and I'm an independent advisor, also a Microsoft user just like you! I'll try to help you today with your issue.

My mate Paul indicated that the Ethernet controller has been blamed, something that I've also seen in the minidump attached. Also, the latest version for BIOS is F33C, apparently, which seems to have important updates, and you have F32 which is not the latest.

Please, reinstall the LAN driver, and also flash latest BIOS following the manufacturer's instructions, from this link: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X570-AORUS... . Make sure to install all latest drivers from this website as well.

Please, do follow all the steps and give feedback on each of them.

I'll wait for your reply! Don't worry, everything will be okay.

Hugs,

Miguel Ángel :)

Hello Miguel,

Thank you for taking the time!

Is there an error code for the ethernet controller? (just so I can recognize it in the future)

No problem, I'll reinstall Lan drivers ASAP as well as update BIOS, I was always told to stay away from versions with a letter a the end as they are betas and might be less stable :)

As I was typing this the first time, I had a new BSOD: KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION

I'll link the memory.dmp as well as the minidump

The memory dump said that the fltmgr.sys would be at fault but I'm not sure what it is

Hey there Lulu!

You don't need to install beta BIOS, that's for sure.

I've checked carefully on the minidump, and it seems to be a file storage related issue. I'll attach the strings here, and try to explain them with a very general explanation:

nt!NtQueryDirectoryFile+0x7a (information from a directory is returned)
nt!IofCallDriver+0x55 (an IRP is sent to the driver, in this case FLTMGR, the responsible for storing and getting your files)
FLTMGR!FltpPerformPreCallbacksWorker+0x36b
bindflt!BfGetMappingContexts+0x2aa (the directory loads)
nt!RtlpHpLfhSubsegmentFreeBlock+0x1ed918
nt!RtlpHeapHandleError+0x40 (there seems to be an error in the file structure, or on the way to handle it --> driver).

By what you can see, this could show an issue with the hard drive, which I don't know if it's a SSD or HDD since it's not specified.

Anyhow, please run a CHKDSK, following these steps:

1. Press Windows + X and open 'Command Prompt (admin)'. You can as well look for 'cmd' in Search bar, right-click and 'Run as administrator'.
2. In the command prompt, run the following commands:

> dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
> sfc /scannow
> chkdsk /f

Third command may ask you to type Y to reset the computer. Just type Y and then press Enter. I'd recommend you to post some feedback if these commands have fixed anything or not.

These kinds of issues in file management can be caused, of course, by outdated drivers (especially chipset, Intel Management, Intel Rapid Storage), third-party software, including antivirus (use Windows Defender, and just that), or also an outdated BIOS (most surely).

You can test the HDD/SSD as well, just in case. If it's a HDD, you can use Seagate Seatools. If it's a SSD, you can use Crystal DiskInfo SMART or HDTune.

We'll only check RAM and CPU after checking on everything software-wise and hard drive, anyhow.

Please, let me know how everything goes.

Miguel Ángel :)

Hello again Miguel,

So, I've updated Lan Drivers as well as the BIOS version.

I have 2 SSD on my computer, the C: is where windows is installed and the D: is where my games are installed

I've never run any antivirus other than Windows Defender.

So I ran all 3 tests and they all came negative as no errors were find

I also ran Crystal disk info and HDTune and they both said the SSD were healthy.

Do the 3 tests check both SSD at once or should I test each individually?
