BSOD after joining microsoft teams meetings w/video enabled

I get a BSOD fairly reliably a few minutes after joining a Microsoft Teams video call with background blur enabled.

Disabling background effects or joining with audio only appears to prevent the blue screen but I'm not 100% certain.

I tried disabling hardware acceleration in teams:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msteams/forum/msteams_other/teams-causes-bsod/5c09b465-79f6-4fc1-89ca-88f5551fa598

I also tried setting TdrDelay to 10 as in this answer:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/ms-teams-and-blue-screen-errors/b3155ce8-5c5c-4cc3-b7d8-96c8999ce7a2

Neither solution resolved the issue

Stop code: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

Thanks in advance if someone has a solution!

Hi kfischer101p, I am Rob, an independent and a 15 time and dual award MVP specializing in Windows troubleshooting and Bluescreen analysis. Please remember as independents we are not responsible for the development of Windows or the computer hardware and drivers. If you will work with me I will be here to help until the issue is resolved.

I did a detailed analysis on the DMP file and found the usually unhelpful results for the BugCheck 124 which is very often indicative of a hardware issue. That very often indicates a problem with the processor, its heat sink, or the compound between them though it can be other hardware and even 3rd party antivirus/security programs.

Lately, there have been quite a few systems showing this error with the same device ID so I will tell you what seems to be helping most.

1. Turn off Fast Startup.

Start - Settings - System - Power & Sleep - on the right panel under "Advanced system settings" - "Choose what the power buttons do" - "Change settings currently unavailable" - uncheck "Turn on fast startup" - Save changes - Power Off - wait for a few minutes and then power back on.

2 Use the DDU method to fully uninstall and reinstall the latest Nvidia drivers.

3A. AFTER ALL of 1. & 2.then update or reinstall (the same one) RealTek audio/sound drivers. Check version with DriverView (see the method below).

Also, update the BIOS, chipset drivers, and other major drivers at ASUS.

3B. AFTER ALL of the above then update the Intel network drivers and others the Intel Driver and Support Assistant finds (see below for a link to run it).

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

Run DriverView - set VIEW to Hide Microsoft drivers - update those without Dump in their names (and update BIOS and chipset drivers). <-- THIS is important!!!!

DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system. For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver, description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current. Right Click the Start Button - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click Update Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click - Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for BIOS, Chipset, and software updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN -
REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

Please note that consumer-level troubleshooting software rarely specifies a particular piece of hardware so a lot of close observation is required.

PassMark Burnin Test - Free Trial - note the trial version will only run for 15 minutes and it really needs to be used for many hours. So if you use this you will need to faithfully and quickly restart it every 15 minutes.
