Bluetooth volume control issues

I have an "ortho remote" (https://teenage.engineering/products/orthoremote) Bluetooth audio control (controlling volume, play/pause, etc) from teenage.engineering. In Windows 10 21H1 19043.1110, changing the volume on the remote is unpredictable; when I change the volume it continues in the direction of the *previous* change for a few clicks before moving in the direction I'm changing it now. And when it gets to the end of the range (to 0 or 100%) it "bounces" off the end and starts going the other direction.

None of these issues happen on OSX.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

  • What is the make and model of the PC/motherboard?

  • Did you check Ortho Remote device on another PC?

  • Did you try any other Bluetooth audio device on this PC?

  • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

  • Do you have any non-Microsoft Antivirus/security program installed?

Let us try few steps and check.

Step 1: Run Bluetooth troubleshooter

Select the Start button, and then select Settings>Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > then from the list select Bluetooth Run the troubleshooter.

Step 2: Bluetooth Services.

Check the Bluetooth service, press Windows + R key > type services.msc and click OK > look for the below services > Double click on each services > change Startup type to Automatic for each and Start the service.

  • Bluetooth Support Service

  • Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service

  • Bluetooth User Support Service

Step 3: Remove and reinstall the driver.

We would recommend you to create a restore point before you proceed with the steps, refer the article to Create a system restore point.

  1. Press Windows + X key and select Device Manager from the context menu.

  2. Spot and expand the Bluetooth.

  3. Right click on the driver and select “Uninstall”

  4. Check the box beside “Delete the driver software for this device”

  5. Then download and install the latest version of the driver again from Manufacturer website.

Step 2:  Clean boot

Try booting your PC in clean boot. Refer to the article on How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note:  Clean Boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program. Also, you may not be able to use some programs in clean boot.

If performing a clean boot fixes the issue then, please refer to the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot to check which program is causing the issue.

Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.

Regards,

Aditya Roy

Those steps did not help; the device "works", as in it sort of succeeds in changing my volume. It just does it incorrectly, as I described. This is reproducible on two different Windows 10 laptops, and does not happen on an OSX laptop.
