bluetooth transfer of photos from smartphone in Windows 10

Hi

I have just upgraded laptop to Windows 10 from 8.1 and tried sending photos from smartphone to laptop.  I set up my phone in bluetooth devices under settings and successfully paired smartphone to laptop.  Then tried transferring photo.

First try the message said sending photo - but no message received on laptop to say file was being received so I could save it; the photo just disappeared.  So deleted bluetooth device from laptop and laptop from phone and set it up again.

The second try resulted in message on phone saying photo had not been sent.

I have looked for the bluetooth exchange folder which used to be there in Windows 7, but it is not there in Windows ten on the laptop.  I have not yet upgraded on my desktop from 8.1 - but it that folder is not in documents there either

Please tell me where is the bluetooth exchange folder in Windows 10 and 8.1 and how I can get photo transfers via bluetooth from phone to laptop & desktop.

My husband has a computer with windows 7 on it and the transfer works OK on that computer

Frustrated

Hi again

I have just found the answer to my query so thought I'd share it.  It was very simple as my husband said it would be.  It works for both Windows 8.1 & Windows 10

I have my task bar at the top of the screen, but wherever yours is right click on the "down" arrow - top right "show hidden icons" -  you get a drop down box of actions - click on "properties" then "customise"

        - on 8.1 you get a drop down box of icons which you can show or hide on task bar - just click "show icon & notifications" for the Bluetooth icon;  click "OK" and you are done.

Then when you want to send or receive through Blutooth just left click and choose either send or receive - choose the image to send from your phone, the message will arrive on your computer screen - then select where you want to save it and click "finish" and bob's your uncle the image arrives on your computer.

         - on Win 10 it is a bit different from this point - after having clicked on "customise" click on "select which icons appear on the task bar" - you will then get a list of icons  - choose "Windows Explorer bluetooth devices" which has the Bluetooth icon - slide to "on".  It is that simple and the process to send or receive info via bluetooth is as for 8.1

I hope this helps you

Valerie - no longer frustrated!!!

"windows was unable to transfer some files

the transfer was canceled by the Bluetooth device or Bluetooth enabled computer."

This is making me regret windows 10 :'(

Hi  sorry my solution did not work for you  - not certain why transfers are being blocked

I am no computer expert - I just try everything in hope that I hit on the right solution - which I did that time.  However you could try one or two things that I also did

left click on the Bluetooth icon - click on "show Bluetooth devices"  - click on "more Bluetooth options" & "options" tab - make sure all boxes are ticked - click OK

return to "show Bluetooth devices" - you will see what it says - the Bluetooth devices attached to your computer - left click the one that is not working and click "remove device" -

make sure your device is open to be "found" and let your computer search & find it - then re-pair your device & computer - I have found this is takes longer than on Win 7

now try the transfer again - if it still does not work !!!  I do not have any more ideas - sorry.

good luck

I think I found the solution for Windows 10. Its like going back to the older Windows 7.

You have to right click on the Bluetooth icon and select "Receive a File" in order to transfer files. Once you've done that, a window opens up  saying "Waiting for a Connection". Then you just send the files from your device or phone and they should start transferring.

This only works with devices already paired to the computer, so make sure its already paired.

Wow! Bluetooth file transfer is working in Windows 10! It's a bit clunky, since for me in Windows 7 it is not necessary to select "Receive a File". However, I totally appreciate you finding and posting this solution.

Just wondering: has anyone been able to Send a file from the computer to a Phone using Bluetooth "Send a File"?

It does not work for me. I'm expecting a pop-up asking where to save the file but it never shows, then the request times out. Not a big deal for me since I have not done this in a long while but I'm sure it matters to many users.

Up until reading your question I had not transferred photos from PC to phone, so I tried it and was successful.  But as you said, I did not get a popup window on the phone to ask where to store it - the programme just stored the transferred photo onto my phone and when I looked in "gallery" it showed up there.

I think one only gets a "popup" when transferring from phone to PC as the PC wants to know where to store it but the phone has only one place "Gallery"

Thanks grayknight. I also accidently found this out after wasting 30 minutes getting "failed to send" messages from my phone. Don't understand why Win 10 doesn't automatically detect an attempt by a connected device (or unconnected device for that matter) to send a file and ask the recipient (a) if they want to receive and (2) if they do, prompt for a folder to save to.

I'm finding the whole Win10 interface to be quite clunky - I'd struggle to call this an upgrade to Win10 - more like a sideways, or worse, backward step.

I haven't found how to send a picture from pc to phone.

In previous Windows versions, all that you needed to do was right click on the thumbnail, highlight 'send to' then pick 'via Bluetooth' and away you went, but now this option isn't available. Why ?

My phone is paired, my pc shows as paired on my phone, Bluetooth is on, on both devices and yet I cant even find the pathways to send anything either way   ???????????

I thought Windows 8 was bad, but I 'm finding Windows 10 very confused and dis-jointed. Its not explained very well for those of us with only a basic knowledge and I'm VERY tempted to go back to Windows 8.

If I've got to have a wired connection to transfer files, I might as well get some of that Apple rubbish.

Please please help.

This worked for me when transferring photos from a Droid Turbo to my Dell PC with Windows 10.  However, it's faster to simply connect the phone to the desktop through the USB cable and copy the photo or use One Drive.
