Bluetooth Sound Quality is Terrible

I've been using my Bluetooth headphones for a few months now and everything was fine until a few days ago.  Now my sound quality is terrible.

When it initially started playing the quality would be bad for the first few seconds and then it would correct itself.  Now, it doesn't correct itself.

I've tried playing through the laptop speakers and it sounds ok there.

Feedback hub issue.  I've run a capture through there and submitted it.

Hi Mike,

You described that the issue with the audio quality of your Bluetooth headphones started a few days ago. May we know if you have made any significant changes to your device prior to the issue?

Also, if you connect your Bluetooth headphones to another device, does it still exhibit the low-quality audio?

Hi David - not really sure.  I always run 'the updates' when it asks though.  Either windows updates or updates via the IBM app for drivers.

Any thoughts on how I can run 'a report' of any changes?

The headphones work fine on my iPhone.

You mentioned that you always run the updates when you are asked to. May we know if the Bluetooth drivers for your device is updated? You may check your drivers using Device Manager by right-clicking the driver, and selecting Update Driver.

thanks for @Maximus2016 on the lenovo support forums I've fixed my problem!

  • Right click the speaker icon in the system tray by the clock
    • Click 'Playback devices'
  • Change the default to the 'headphones'

the lenovo support link has screen shots, fyi.

"Some bluetooth devices have 2 modes: Regular listening device and a "handsfree" mode where you can use both the audio and microphone. If you somehow got switched to handsfree mode, then the audio quality will be much worse since some of the bluetooth bandwidth will be taken up for the microphone."
