Bluetooth device accidently disabled - can't re-enable it

I'm using a Sony MDR-ZX750BN bluetooth headset. Everything was fine until I accidently selected Disable in the options menu instead of Connect.

The device has now completely disappeared from the Device Manager and the Playback tab in the sound settings.

Tried:

Uninstalling/reinstalling Bluetooth drivers

Rebooting etc.

Using Show Disable Devices and Show Disconnected Devices

Adding the headset again using the Add Device option in the Devices window. It throws an error:

Any idea how I can fix this? And where I can find the device entry in the Device Manager? I don't see any disabled devices in the list.

Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have issues adding the Bluetooth headset to the computer, after accidently disabling it.

You may try to run the hardware troubleshooter and see If that helps in fixing the issue.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter

If that doesn't help then, I would advice you follow the link mentioned below to change the Bluetooth device settings and see if that helps.

Change settings for a Bluetooth enabled device

Also, try to check for the Bluetooth Support Service, if it is enabled or not.

1) Click Start, type Run, in the run box type services.msc, and then click OK.

  • 2) Double-click the Bluetooth Support service.
  • 3) If the Bluetooth Support service is stopped, click Start.
  • 4)Then change it to Automatic.
  • 5) Click OK.
  • 6) If you prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

    Additional Information:

Add a Bluetooth enabled device to your computer

Hope this helps. Otherwise, feel free to write us back and we will be glad to help you further.

    Thank you

    Hi,

I've tried all the suggestions but it doesn't work.

    • The troubleshooter doesn't find anything, as expected
    • Changing the settings for a bluetooth device has no impact (because the issue isn't related to that)
    • The Bluetooth Support service is running
    • I've already tried to add the device again, so obviously that doesn't work

Somewhere on the system the device is marked as Disabled. I just can't find where, as it won't show up in the Device Manager. I'm guessing it's because the device isn't connected. Which brings us full circle... because I can't connect it.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

You may try to perform system restore and see if that helps.

    System Restore

Note: When you use System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.

    The system restore didn't work.

I managed to get the device back in the Bluetooth Devices list and in the Playback Devices sound page.

I did this by going to Devices and Printers -> Add Device -> Right-click on the headphone device and selecting properties -> then selecting all the functions it should perform.

It then installs all the driver software.

However, I now have an issue where I can't connect to the device. When I right-click and select Connect nothing happens. The audio doesn't switch to the headphones.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello,

You may try to uninstall and re-install the drivers for your Bluetooth device and then check for the issue.

You may use the device manager to uninstall and reinstall the Bluetooth device drivers.

Follow the steps to check the Bluetooth drivers in device manager:

    a. Click Start, then type ‘Device Manager’ without quotes in the search box.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    b. Locate the Bluetooth device by expanding the categories.

    c. Now you may right-click the listed drivers
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) and Bluetooth

Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI), here you will get all the option to update or Install/uninstall drivers. Click on Uninstall.

    d. Check if at all there is an exclamation mark along the driver, it suggests issues with the driver installed.

    e. Restart the computer. This will let the computer automatically detect the device drivers on restart of the computer.

If the issue still persists, you may check for an updated driver from the manufacturer and install the latest version.

I've tried all the options above but the problem is still there. Trying to connect to the device simply doesn't do anything. Also audio over HDMI has stopped working...

    Hello,

    1) Have you tried using the device in any other computer?

    2) What is the make and model of the computer?

In the meanwhile, refer to the article mentioned below to fix the issue.

The device works fine on other computers. Until you accidentally select Disconnect again. After that I have not been able to get it working on that computer again.

    It's a Dell Precision M4700 running Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks for the article links, but they did not provide a solution.

    Hello,

You may try to follow the link below to run System File Checker (SFC) because, if a Windows Resource Protection (WRP) file is missing or is corrupted, Windows may not behave as expected. Run System File Checker (SFC) scan to fix any corrupt system files. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the link below:
