Bluetooth connection problem between new JBL Live Pro 2 earbuds and Surface Laptop 3 running latest Windows 11 (not recognized as audio device)

Hi,

I just purchased the newest JBL Live PRO2 TWS earbuds that support BT version 5.2 but struggle to connect these to my new Surface Laptop 3. I have upgraded the Intel(R) Wireless BlueTooth(R) driver to the latest 22.150.0.6 and spent hours trying all kinds of solutions in other forums such as reinstalling drivers, running troubleshooter etc. but no luck.

The funny thing is that the earbuds are immediately detected but not recognized as audio device. I see them listed under other BT devices as JBL LIVE PRO 2 TWS-LE and when I look in device manager it says the driver is 10.0.22000.856 dated 21/6/2006 which seems extremely old or wrong but I am unable to update it (says this is the latest version). In addition I see multiple "Bluetooth LE Generic Attribute Service" show up once I add the earbuds, not sure what these mean.

Contacted JBL, they did not have newer drivers. Contacted Microsoft Support, also were unable to help.

Unless someone is able to help I will give up and return them. I found many similar issues/questions, but nowhere any answer that I can try.

Thanks

Tom

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

As far as I know, some earbuds of JBL are not well compatible with windows, which does not mean that they cannot be used, but there may be some link problems or even playback stability problems. Generally speaking, JBL officially recommends using it on mobile phones. As for windows, compatibility is developed and adapted by earphone manufacturers. Your situation is obviously an adaptation and compatibility problem. So my suggestion is that you can try to change a brand of headphones (suitable for PC), which may bring you a better experience. Obviously, JBL is a good brand.

Keep us posted if you encounter any challenges along the process.

Best regards

Doesn't work on a Surface Book 2 (Windows x64) and Surface Pro X v2 (ARM64) both with Windows 11 either.

JBL has mentioned the pairing with Bluetooth with Windows PC's on their website. Microsoft has changed stuff in Windows 11 which brakes compatibity with Bluetooth vendors, so please fix the things have broken s.v.p. or should we use non-Windows for laptops instead to keep us compatible with JBL?

I don't think many persons will like this answer. If Windows 11 is the successor of Windows 10 then you should fix the stuff instead instead of steering users to Jabra of another Microsoft Windows 11 comaptible trademark.

Helping JBL to fix the Bluetooth thing in Windows 11, is too difficult?

Hi Tom,

At first pairing did not work for me either on Windows 11. It did pair, but wasn't recognized as an audio device. It was listed under 'Other devices'.

After removing the device I followed these steps:

- Under 'Bluetooth & devices', go to Devices (do not add a device)

- Press the right earbud for 5 seconds to hear 'pairing'

- Scroll down to 'Related settings', Sound, Input

- At 'Pair a new input device' click 'Add device'

- Select Bluetooth, and select the device

Now it has voice & music ;)

I have the JBL live pro 2 TWS earbuds and did the following to connect them:

- Turn off existing connections between the eabuds and other devices. If the earbuds still connects to your mobile for example the following will not work.

- Open the lid of the case and take the right earbud, after 5 seconds it will say "pairing" and the leds on the case will loop.

- Then search for new devices in the bluetooth settings menu.

- Wait till the earbuds are found as audio device, the one with a headset icon in front.

The standard pairing procedure will not work because windows will not recognize them as audio device.

I solved the problem by doing item 1 of this answer. LIVE-PRO-2-TWS (no LE) option appeared as audio device. Thanks

Jur Huisman had the solution that worked for me. I had already disconnected the earbuds from other devices, and removed the earbuds several times, but they never showed up as an audio device until I pressed the right ear bud for five seconds to hear "Pairing".

This answer seems like there is a problem with Windows drivers that you do not want to address, so the solution is to change brands rather than address the issue. It seems like a lot of earbuds have issues with Windows; the common denominator is Microsoft. As you said, mobile phones work fine, so Android and Apple have figured it out, hopefully, Microsoft comes up to speed too.
