Blue screen with a sad face

When I fired up my computer today it was working for 5 mins then I encountered a Bluescreen, then it shutdown automatically, I tried to restart and it boots fine, what happen to my laptop?

Hi Shane. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

Sounds like it crashed. Usually that has to do with a driver. Are your drivers all updated from the manufacturer's Support downloads web page for your model? Were there any changes made just before it crashed?

There are some troubleshooting tools here if it returns:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/sbs/windows...

Meanwhile you can Go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account to replace yours which may be corrupted. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

Shane -

Where are the results of the steps I gave you which most often work for the problem? I am standing by here to help you further, but I need to know the specific results so I know what else to try.

This is an interactive process. I give steps to perform, you do each one and then report back results until something works, so I know what to suggest next. If you need help performing any step, just ask back. But please do not skip any steps. We often find out the skipped step is the fix.
