Hello Anthony,

To be able to assist you better, kindly let us know if you are referring to:

  • Outlook.com (via web browser)

  • Microsoft Outlook

  • Windows Live Mail

  • Mail App in Windows

Please be informed that you can make such changes related to blocking emails at: https://www.outlook.com

These changes will reflect across all email platforms in Windows 10.

Now, there are several ways on how you can block spam emails in your mailbox. Here are some options that you can set up in your account:

  • Junk mail filter - Selecting Exclusive option. This feature will let you receive emails from your contact list and safe senders list.
  • Email rules - You can set up email rules to filter incoming emails to automatically delete them and not getting them in your Inbox.
  • Blocked senders list - You can add email address/es or domain/s in this list to stop receiving emails from them. You also need to delete them from your contact list and safe senders list as well.
  • Sweep features - Sweeping emails for deletion.

If you need further assistance or information on how to set filters to block emails or spams in Outlook.com, you may contact Outlook.com Forums, where we have support professionals who are well equipped with the knowledge on such issues.

Thank you.

Microsoft are not massively helpful in this case. I believe they have removed the function within the mail app presumably because it offers more stable and  uniform syncing between different devices.  It can only be done online, this fact is not well advertised and the moderator could have easily added this fact in the above answer.

If you have a microsoft email account (hotmail or outlook) then you can click the cog at the bottom right - manage accounts - click the account you want - change account settings.

The above function was missing for my gmail email account, so I guess it will be necessary to do edit blocked accounts online.

On saying that though I know that Junking an email will add the sender to the blocked senders for microsoft accounts. I don't know whether junking on a none microsoft email account (such as gmail)  on the mail app will also add it to the gmail server blocked list..... I suspect not.

You have to click where it says ´more´ beneath the list of folders on the left. You wonder sometimes what the app designers were thinking when they made some of their microsoft apps. Junk email folder has always been there as standard since time zero so why make it so difficult.

Going to Account Settings still does not give the option to block senders.

Neither can the Windows 10 mail program create folders. If I had known this I would not have bought a Windows 10 laptop. When is Microsoft going to improve this poor program?

Hi Anthony

Sayan_Ghosh is correct with the answer. You need to see the mail app as a slave of Outllook.com. Make all your junk mail rules and processes in Outlook.com and they will be reflected in the Mail app. It is a little odd but it works.
