Black screen in Windows Vista.

When my computer has not been used for a while, the screen turns black. Normally I can turn it on again by moving the mouse or touching the keyboard. But sometimes it is not possible to turn it on again and I have to use the main power button on the CPU to shut it down and start again.

Hi,

1st I would clear general corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files :

Start - type this in Search Box ->  COMMAND   find at top and RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

Enter this at the prompt - sfc /scannow

Run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart.

Check Settings (BIOS/CMOS) as you boot and make sure that Wake on lan, Wake on modem and
similar are not enabled.

Control Panel - Device Manager - look at Power Management settings for Network Card, WiFi, Modem,
and other devices. (Double click the device and Power Management Tab)

Set ALL power plans to the default and then set them as you wish.
