When encrypting a portable hard drive 1TB bitlocker stops at 99.9% and the status window indicates not responding. When I check the control panel for bitlocker the control panel will not open and shows not responding in the main control panel window, it
does not get to the bitlocker control panel.
At this point I am unable to pause or resume using the status window or manage-bde.
Task manager will not end the process for wither the status window or the control panel window attempting to open.
end up having to shut down computer and once done the Bitlocker control panel shows the drive as encrypted, manage-bde shows the drive as 100% encrypted,
Access to the drive is fine, it si set to automatically unlock on the computer.
But....
The drive still shows only 6GB space available. I understand this is part of the encryption process and that the drive is filled with niose, but the process is supposed to erase this data upon completion and it does not.
It is not just an indication problem as when attempting to copy files to the drive it indicates that there is not enough space.
I tried reformatting the drive and started over but got the same result.
I am using windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
The external drive is a WD passport essentials.SE 1TB.
Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive, then chkdsk tries to repair that sector. If any data is available thenthat data might be lost.
Hope that helps.
