Bitlocker Drive Encryption Wizard has stopped working

After attempting to enable Bitlocker drive encryption, error message appears as mentioned in subject.
Hi

My name is Lester and hopefully, this helps answer your question.

This error usually comes up if your TPM is not up to date, you can update it through your manufacturers website, moreover follow the steps below if all is up to date.

Solution 1. Enable bitlocker on gpedit

- Press Windows key + R then type in gpedit.msc click OK.
- Click Computer configuration> Administrative templates > Windows components> Bitlocker Drive Encryption
- double-click on Require additional authentication at startup
- Click on Enabled and Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM
- Restart the PC and check

Solution 2. Clear TPM (Trusted Platform Module)

You may refer to this link reference for the steps: https://windowsreport.com/bitlocker-failed/

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. The page appears to be providing accurate, safe information. Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before you decide to download and install it.

If none will work from the above solution I suggest to do an in-place upgrade wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Note: before doing this make sure to create a restore point: https://support.microsoft.com/en-hk/help/402753...

1. go to this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

2. Select Download tool, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.

3. On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.

4. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next.

5. After downloading and installing, it should be back to normal.

I hope this will help.

Hi Lester,

Thank you so much for the reply.

I have tried the steps you have mentioned, but it still gives the same error.

The unit does not have TPM installed.

Running Windows 10 Pro v1903. Prior to the last attempt, all updates and drivers were verified and installed accordingly. Also ran the following:

  • SFC/ Scannow
  • CHKDSK /f /x /r
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

The GP was amended as per the recommendation.
