Bitdefeder: Rescue Environment says "your windows recovery image seems to be missing" on windows 11

Hello,

I have purchased a new PC with windows 11 yesterday. As I was installng the antivirus (Bitdefender) and pressed the button Rescue Environment a pop up appeared saying "Your windows recovery image seems to be missing and Rescue environment might not be functioning properly. Do you wish to continue?"

On Bitdefender forums there is a similar post and the moderator advised the poster to submit the question here.

Any advice how to solve this problem?

Best Regards,

Dimitris

P.S. I apologize for any grammatical or syntax errors because English is not my native language.

Hi Dimitris,

I guess BitDefender's Rescue Environment depends upon Windows RE to work correctly.

Open admin Command Prompt and run these commands to check the status of WinRE on your computer:

  • reagentc /info

  • bcdedit

  • diskpart

  • list vol

Copy the output of each command and include it in your reply.

Dimitris,

WinRE is enabled. I hope you're able to boot into Windows RE. To access Win RE, from the login screen, click Shutdown, then hold down the Shift key while selecting Restart.

If WinRE works correctly, it could be a problem with BitDefender. As the "Rescue Environment" option is a paid feature of BitDefender, I cannot test it out on my system. As far as I know, BitDefender Free doesn't have the option.

Dear Ramesh,

I followed your instructions and was able to boot to WinRE. I selected startup repair from the advanced options but the response was that windows could not repair the computer. Please advice on what I should do next.

Best Regards,

Dimitris

Dimitris,

In Windows RE, open Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Command Prompt.

If it works fine, it means there are no issues with the native Windows RE or the Winre.wim.

I'm not sure which recovery image BD is referring to. Can you ask BD support as to which recovery image BD is referring to? Does it depend upon a Windows feature, and if so, which one? I'm trying to ascertain if this is a Windows issue or not. And unfortunately, BitDefender's "Rescue" option seems to be a paid feature. As a result, I'm unable to test it.

Dimitris,

That means there is nothing wrong with the recovery image.

Can you ask Bitdefender support (Bitdefender Community forums) which recovery image Bitdefender AV is referring to?

Does it depend upon a Windows feature, and if so, which one?

First, let's try to ascertain whether this is a Windows issue.
