BBWC - Eclipse Meda Inc. - Is It a Virus?

This thing called BBWC was installed on my system on 12/10/23, and around that time, I used Malwarebytes, which flagged 1–14 files as encrypted or malware. I keep trying to delete it, but it says:

"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

Does this mean I already messed up, or what?

Hello, Alex Heartman

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I have carefully read the information and problem description you provided.

I understand the problem you are having, and yes, BBWC is a malicious program that hijacks your browser homepage and search engine and displays unwanted ads that are not from the website you are browsing.

The error message "The installation source for this product is not available" indicates that you may be trying to delete or uninstall a program that has been partially deleted or damaged, or the installation source has been changed or deleted. Malware may hide or modify their installation path in the system, making it impossible to uninstall or delete normally.

Malwarebytes alert indicates that there are potentially malicious files in your system. Although it marks 1 to 14 files as encrypted or malicious, if you cannot delete them, it may be because the malware has taken some defensive measures to try to prevent being deleted.

Based on the above analysis, I suggest you try the following methods to try to remove this malware.

Method 1. Perform a system scan

Press Windows + I to open Settings.

In the Settings window, select Privacy & Security, then click Windows Security Center.

In Windows Security Center, select Virus & Threat Protection.

Select Full Scan, then click Scan Now.

Method 2. Start Windows in Safe Mode, which prevents most malware from loading at startup, making it easier for you to remove these files.

To enter Safe Mode: Hold down the Shift key and select Restart, then select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart. After restarting, press 4 to start Safe Mode.

In Safe Mode, try to locate and manually delete BBWC or any related malicious files. If the folder location is inaccessible, try right-clicking the folder and selecting Properties to see if there are other problems that are preventing you from deleting.

Method 3. If you can't uninstall or delete it through regular methods, you can try using a third-party uninstall tool such as Revo Uninstaller or IObit Uninstaller, which can clean up residual malware files and registry entries.

If the above method doesn't work and the malware is still there, you may want to consider resetting Windows to completely remove all malicious programs.

Press Win + I to open Settings.

In the left menu, select System.

Scroll to Recovery and click Recovery.

Under Recovery, find the Reset this PC section and click Reset PC.

A prompt will pop up asking you to choose Keep my files or Remove everything.

Select Keep my files to keep your personal data (such as documents, pictures, videos, etc.), but remove applications and system settings.

Best regards
