Battery dying after Windows 10 Upgrade

Has anyone had the issue of their battery dying after upgrading to windows 10? Mine used to last 3 hours and after the upgrade it wouldn't charge past 75% (even though it would say it was charging) and then the life started progressively and rapidly declining. It's been 2 weeks and now 75% means it lasts less than 30 minutes on battery saver. With such a sudden drop, one has to wonder, did windows 10 cause this problem?

Also, now on starting up my PC, I get a notification that tells me my battery needs replacing :(

Therefore, I doubt switching back to my old OS will fix this issue.

Can anyone help?

I've chatted to a microsoft answer tech who told me to post my case here for help from the engineers - my case number is 1300497091

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10. This issue usually arises due to outdated drivers. You may try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Update Drivers

Refer to the following article and update all the drivers available.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10

If you are unable to find the drivers for Windows 10, you may try to install the drivers in compatibility mode with Windows 8.1.

Firstly download the driver from your computer's manufacturer website and then install it.

Refer (Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/older-programs-compatible-version-windows

Note: This link also applies to Windows 10.

Method 2:

One of the new features in Windows 10 is included in the new Settings app. It's called "Battery saver" and as the name implies, it's a feature to help Windows 10 devices to save battery life by limiting background activity and automatically adjusting different system settings. This is in addition to battery usage reports for you to understand what is draining your battery.

To access the new battery settings, open the Settings app, go to System, and navigate to Battery saver.

Note: Windows 10 features that your device can't handle won't be shown as an option. If you're running the operating system on a desktop computer without a battery, the Battery saver option won't be available. The same is true for other features.

When you arrive at the settings, you'll see two sections: Overview shows you the battery level and an indicator when your device is charging or draining.

There is a link to access Battery use. This section is very useful, as it can show you battery usage across all your apps. This information can be very valuable to understand better which apps you probably want to be careful or stay away from when you're not plugged in.

Hope the information provided is helpful. Do let us know if you have any queries related to Windows, we will be happy to assist you.

Regards,
Sahil Bali

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I tried that and installed 2 updates. Unfortunately that made no difference and now my laptop will switch off suddenly when I unplug it (even though it says it's "68% charging" - and it won't go higher than this). Also, I have been using battery saver, not much difference unfortunately.

Hi,

Actually,i too had battery draining issue after windows 10 installation. But i found out some unwanted background process consuming my battery.I just shut down the processes and checked whether it worked, surprisingly it worked(extended some time like 20 -35 minutes). so give it a try to get battery Savings..

Steps:

  1. Open Task manager.

You Can View task Manager By Pressing Control + Alt + Delete keys, and Selecting task manager on that

     Window.

(or)

right clicking on Task Bar and Selecting Task manager.

2.Click on the background App and Select End task.

Hope it helps.

No that didn't help either. My computer is officially 100% dependent on being plugged in, the battery does nothing for it anymore - it is completely dead. Please just be honest with me if I have to get a new battery, I highly doubt my apps (minimal as they are) are the cause of this. Prior to downloading windows 10 my laptop (with the same apps running) lasted 3 hours on battery.

I have install windows 10 on my Sony laptop [VPCEB34EN] which has wndows 10 previously.

Laptop configuration is 500GB,3GB RAM and i3 processor with new sony battery.

It take me whole night to install Windows 10 on my laptop and then after that it cause black screen suddenly

without any message and after that laptop was not able to ON.

If my battery is dead then after pluging charger, it should work. But it was not working. It seems to me that windows 10 has eaten all battery power at suddenly.Because generaly battery power slowly decreases and from 3 hours it will reach upto 10 min. But in my case it was giving 2 hours of back up before installing windows 10.

Then I have removed the battery and plugin charger, now laptop is working without battery.

It's weird...........
