Base System Device Driver not found

Acer Aspire 5750

Windows 7 64-bit

8gb Ram

i was recently looking around on my computer and discovered that it has two missing Base System Device drivers missing, i ran windows troubleshooter which came up with nothing. then i started to research the issue and found out that its usually caused by the card reader. i went to the acer website and attempted to install the card reader driver, it downloaded but then crashed for some reason, so then i tried a few other things it said to do, which were Upgrade the BIOS and to upgrade the chipset. the chipset was updated further than the version acer had on the website and the Bios didn't seem to do anything so i tried the card reader driver again with no luck. i attempted to post to the Acer community website but couldn't figure that out, so that's why i'm here.

Please Help!

Thanks!

Hello Smounce,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community Forum.

As per the description, I understand that you found two Base System Device entries in device manager with yellow exclamation mark and later on discovered that it is because of missing card reader driver. You tried to update the card reader driver from Acer website but it crashed again after installation. So, following Acer instructions you tried to update BIOS and chipset drivers, you were able to update Chipset drivers successfully but BIOS failed to update. You are unable to install the card reader driver.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

  1. What happens when you try to install the card reader driver? Do you get any error message?
  2. Have you reinstalled operating system recently?

Base system device under device manager with yellow exclamation or question mark generally when a card reader driver is missing or corrupt, updating the card reader driver can solve this problem.

If your computer came with a driver CD, I would suggest you to install the card reader driver from the driver CD or contact your computer manufacturer to get the appropriate driver installed.

You may also try to remove the Base System Device from the Device Manager and restart the computer to let the computer automatically update the appropriate driver through Windows Update.

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Device Manager to open Device Manager and click Base System Device from the device list.
  3. Right Click the Base System device and Click Uninstall.
  4. Restart the computer and check if Windows automatically finds and update the driver.

If Windows is unable to find the device driver, I would suggest you to contact your system manufacturer to get the appropriate driver installed properly.

Regards,
Mann Manohar

When i try installing the card reader i get a message that says the installation was interrupted and was stopped, i tried installing the driver for both the 64-bit and the 32-bit software and get the same message. and yes i have reinstalled the operating system recently, i had to put a new hard drive in the computer since the old one stopped working. i have also tried uninstalling the device from the device list with no luck because it keeps coming back with the same issue, along with windows not being able to find the driver. i haven't been able to contact the manufacturer because the acer website is so confusing that i cant figure it out, i try to ask a question on the board or email them but it keeps taking me to a FAQ page.
