Authenticate bluetooth security tag windows 10

The message 'Authenticate bluetooth security tag' shows on the log-in screen.  Clicking on that message goes nowhere. The Log-in is OK but, all of a sudden Bluethooth has stopped working.  There are no devices now showing in Control Panel/Bluetooth Devices and can not access Bluetooth settings.

1) Thanks in advance for suggestion/s on how to resolve this issue and (2) What is likely to have caused it in the first place?

Nigel

Hi,

To properly isolate this issue, we recommend using the Bluetooth troubleshooter. To do this:

1. Click Start, then select Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot.
2. Under Find and fix other problems, select Bluetooth > Run the troubleshooter.

If the Bluetooth troubleshooter doesn’t fix your problem, you can refer to the article below:

In Settings the Troubleshoot option does not show but found it in Search.

Trouble shoot computer problems show:

Programs, Hardware and Sound, Network and Internet, System and Security

Running: System and Security troubleshoot generated:

'Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem'.

Find and fix other problems option did not show, so chose Hardware and Devices. in System and Security then Windows Update

Problem found: Windows Update configured to never install drivers - Fixed.

I thought that might have fixed the update error:

Office XP SP3 was attempted which resulted in Error 80096004

But attempting the update again generated:

Error 0x80096004

Check Device Manager to make sure you have the latest Bluetooth drivers installed.

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, select it from the list of results, and then expand Bluetooth in Device.
  2. (My comments continue below)
  3. The only search option seems to Cortana and that's no help.
  4. Can't find the Device Manager (as per Win 7)which shows items in tree form.
  5. Maybe part of the problem is that the SP3 update can't be installed.
